Hi,
Your problem could be related to a faulty power supply. You could do the following. Unplug the power supply (battery) from the printer and make sure is connected to the wall outlet. There should be a green light on the power supply. If the light is on then you have power. Make sure you are plugging the power supply correctly in the back of the printer. You can place the power supply the wrong way and still feel that it went into the printer. If you put it one way and the printer won't turn on then try it the other way and see if that fixes it. If there is no light in the power supply then you can try another outlet if still no light then you can assume is damaged.

Our lexmark 5400 series printer fell on the floor. We put it back together but now it says cover open even when it's not. Not sure how to fix this problem.

Try to remove the sheets of paper from the feeder. Open the cover and remove the cartridges. Close the cover. Unplug and replug the printer into the power source to reset it. When the printer turns on, reinsert the cartridges and make sure they are properly seated and secured. Close the cover. Load some paper. Try to print again. If problem continues, please contact Lexmark technical support for additional assistance.

Was stuck on chineese, must, change language on lm 4800

You'll need to reset the factory defaults.
Download the User Guide (PDF) from here:
http://www.lexmark.com/publications/pdfs/2007/4800/en.html
(I'm assuming you have the something in the 4800 series of printers, though you posted your question in the 5400 series section)

Go to page 56&57 and follow the directions there.

If you have the 5400 series, the link is here:

See page 123.

Error 5400

the 5400 error is telling you there was excessive temperature in the printhead, and this error code will stop all printing attempts.

Unplug the power from the printer and leave it off for a hour and then check the pins inside the carriage and clean them and clean the contacts on the back of the head.
