Sink dishwater intrusion

When not in use there is some dishwater from the sink drainage that makes its way into the bottom of the dishwasher. I do not have an air gap on GE Potscrubber Model 1920 which is about 15 years old. This problem started several months ago.

Hello- Find drain hose from dishwasher under sink. Should have gooseneck ~ in hose run to keep water from getting back into dwshr. Does full sink drained all at once push water into tub? Sometimes stuff not disposalled yet blocks drainage. Older motors can tend to become weak with age, not pumping as much water out of tub as it used to.Anyway- Hope this helps- ED

Dishwater in bottom of dishwasher

You need to mount the drain hose up; i.e have a portion of it that is higher than the bottom of your sink so water can't backwash into the dishwasher. Although most (all?) dishwashers have a check valve that is supposed to stop this, sometimes, after years of use, that check-valve doesn't work 100%, and water can leak by it. By mounting the drain hose up, it will help prevent this problem.

Dishwasher Whirlpool quiet partner 2 will not drain

Check your drainage hose going to the kitchen sink. It should be routed up to an air gap on kitchen sink, or ran to the highest point as possible under the kitchen sink counter and then slope down into the disposer or branch wye tailpiece on your drainage piping depending on what your drainage configuration is. Not going up to the highest point, or an air gap, before draining into your drainage piping allows the water inside the dishwasher hose to drain back into the unit.

Bad smell coming from bottom - water doesn't completely drain out

Make sure the drain hose is not blocked or pinched. Also check where it drains into your sink pipeing to be sure food isnt blocking the drain way.
Its eather the drainage path is blocked or the pump stoped pumping.
Also, the drain hose must be installed so as to have a high spot higher than the sink drain or the water from your sink will be able to "run down hill" or drain into your dishwasher. Take a look and see!

also It sounds like your dishwasher does not have an air gap. Newer dishwashers come with an air gap installed, but they can be taken out. A quick fix for this is to:

Check the drain line under the kitchen sink. The drain line is supposed to run from the bottom of the cabinet, and run as high in the cabinet as you can get, (up to the bottom of the counter top) then connect the drain. This is called an air gap, and helps keep a little water in the drain line, which will prevent sewer gases from entering your dishwasher, and garbage disposal.

Dishwater goes from sink to bottom of dishwater

you need to tie up the drain hose under the sink above where it connects to the drain spigot to stop the sink water flowing down into dishwasher instead of the drain. A blockage in the sink drainage can also make the condition worse.

Water keeps filling even if dishwater is off or if the door is open, the only way to stop it is from turning tap valve off below the sink.

Your dishwasher water fill valve is defective. Remove power from the DW. Remove the bottom toe kick panel. The water valve has the incoming water line connected to it.Remove the wires from the valve. If the water stops entering you have a bad timer. If it makes no difference you have a bad valve. The valve is a replaceable part. The timer is a replaceable part.

Diswasher not heating water

check your connections under the sink. A dishwasher (unless it is a commercial one) is not built to heat water the water is supplied via the water heater via the sink angle stop. The dishwasher does however have a heating element inside used to dry the dishes. I would check the hot water side of the sink where the dishwasher is connected to see if the problem could be in that area. Check your setting on the machine. Good Luck on your repairs

Diswasher drainage in an island

Dbootin,

I suggest just putting a dedicated Drain in the island next to the Dishwasher. You can hide it in side the island. Under the house, tee into the Main Sewage drain.  You should not need to vent it as the sinks vent is near enough to keep you from worrying about that.
