1. Cellular is blocked out on most scanners. You might find a mod on the internet to unblock it....but

2. Most cellular now a days is digital anyway, so even if you could listen to the frequency, it would just be noise.

My old scanner had 20 banks of 10 freq. each, am having trouble understanding the instructions for the SC230. Is there a site or booklet that has the instructions spelled out simplier.? thanks Ed...

Wow, Uniden did their best to make the SC230 manual confusing, didn't they? Here's a link to a much easier to read/use manual that was put together by an SC230 owner who couldn't figure out the factory document. I hope it helps.

BC244CLT Base Scanner: scanner stopped picking up all freq...

If your Scanner has a button labeled ATT or Attenuation try pressing the button, Attentuation is used to block out extremely strong signals and would be used when you are really close to a Transmitter that is transmitting on a frequency close to yours so you can pick up more distant Transmitters.

Guest, I have looked and I didn't find a manual to download for free but the programming should be fairly simple. On my 248 I just manually go to whatever channel I want to program, then punch in the freq. # including the decimal point. Then push a button that says E or enter and wa-laa it's in the memory.

Here is a list of freq's for whatever state and county you live in,,,

Programing for uniden bearcat scanner bc 144xl

danval, I looked up a pic of your scanner and it is pretty straightforward. If it is the 16 channel I was looking at, here is the step by step programming.
1- Push manual button to go to the channel you want to start programming.
2- Enter the freq number in.
3- Push the E button to enter it in the memory.
4- To review what you programmed, push the Review button.
5- Use manual button to step to next channel and start over from #2
That should get you started with the scanning hobby.
The scanner has a Priority button that when activated will stop scanning and go immediatly to the priority channel if someone keys their mic.
If you need freq's (or more of) for your area, go here and click on your state and county and it'll give you a complete listing.
