Greetings I have a defy fridge making a clicking sound after every 5 minutes but not cooling its a defy model c317

That clicking sound is probably the overload breaker cutting off the power to the compressor for some reason. It clicks in because it senses not enough cooling but clicks back off after a few seconds because of overload on the compressor for some reason. It tries over-and-over.

Your compressor has failed in some way or the expansion valve for the coolant is not releasing the pressure as designed. This causes high back pressure on the compressor and it can't push against it, so it stalls and draws high current until the safety breaker kicks out.

I'm wondering, does it not cool at all or is it cooling a little but not near enough?

Not freezing or cooling and compressor clicking on and off

From your description it sounds like the start components (start relay, overload and capacitor) are having problems. The clicking you hear is probably the overload kicking out to protect the compressor. It is quite possible that the compressor simply has gotten too hot and after sitting a while will restart when plugged back in. The start components are not generally considered 'user serviceable' parts. When the compressor has cooled to pretty much room temp, plug it in and be listening for those clicks. If you hear them, unplug it because it could eventually damage the compressor. Those components give the compressor an extra jolt to get the compressor running then they drop out of the circuit. If the compressor doesn't start, it creates heat until the overload drops out.

Maytag refrigerator Model mff2557heb wont cool

The compressor in your refig is bad. whats happening is when you let the compressor cool down it will run for a while then it starts binding internally until it gets to the point of humming and clicking. only repair is replacing the compressor. sorry for the bad news...

A/c runs cool for about 20 minutes and then does not cool anymore. keeps running but does not cool.

Is the compressor still running or has it kicked out? The normal problem is that the unit is low on freon and the compressor is not cooling because of this. If the compressor is kicking off an feels hot to the touch but the inside coil is sweating when the compressor kicked off the compressor is going bad. On an outside chance the thermostat can be going out if you turn it to off or all the way down you should hear an audible click and again when you turn it up normally its good if the click is audible. good luck

Maytag refrigerator clicking

it sounds like a bad:
  • ·       start switch (on the side of the compressor) or
  • ·        compressor itself

the start switch clicks  off usually when the compressor is pulling too many amps or the compressor is overheating. if the compressor is not even running then its probably not overheating.
so either the compressor is pulling too many amps (bad compressor) or the start switch is bad and cannot handle the amps required to start the compressor.

The click is not normal. The compressor is not starting and is tripping the overload. There is a chance the start relay on the compressor is shorted, but most likely the compressor will have to be replaced.
Unplug it for several hours until the compressor cools down and then try it again, if it starts up ok when it is cool the compressor is the problem for sure.
If it is less than 5 yrs old the compressor is still covered by warranty and will be replaced free of charge.
