Hello my friend, Canon BJC-1000SP is always compatible for vista provided that you install the canon BJC-1000SP Driver for Vista Platform. All hardwares are always running on different platform provided that you need to install its driver compatible or supports the platform you are using. Coz hardwares are dependent on the softwares. There is no driver available from Canon for Windows XP (see here).
There is no driver available for your printer on Windows XP, the only drivers on google are either viruses or spyware software, do not install any of them.
Go to www.usa.canon.com, On the site, left click on SUPPORT, then left click on DRIVERS AND DOWNLOADS in the box on the left side.. You can then find your products drivers and download them for free.
Go to this link. Select Windows XP in the Select OS box. Download the driver and follow instructions to install the driver. Do not connect or turn on the printer until the installation program tells you to do so.
