Can't connect my Compaq SR2020NX to the internet

I'm vainly trying to connect my Compaq SR2020NX to the internet. We used to have it connected, but it sat idle for a year or two and now I'm trying to resurrect it. We have a router and I've connected the CAT5 cable from the router to the computer, but still no internet. What do I need to do still?

Make sure the cat5 cable coming from the modem is going to the computer and bypass the router for now.

If the computer is able to connect to the internet then you know its a configuration issue with the router. If it still can't connect to the internet then you know its an issue with the computer, might be a driver issue with the computer at that point.

Call your Internet service provider and have them tell you the steps on how to configure your router to work with there internet service.

Hi, Is Asus ATI Radeon HD6450 Silence 1GB DDR3 VGA/DVI/HDMI Low Profile PCI-Express Video Card capable for my Compaq HP Presario SR2020NX? -thanks a lot.

You mean will the Asus ATI Radeon HD6450 with 1GB of graphics memory, work in a Compaq Presario SR2020NX Desktop PC?

Yes.

The Compaq Presario SR2020NX Desktop PC has a PCI-Express x16 expansion slot.

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00757470&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&lang=en&lc=en&product=3245048

{Motherboard illustration and photo are towards the bottom of the page}

Look at the specifications.
Scroll down to the heading - Expansion slots.

Three PCI. (PCI expansion slots)

One PCI Express x16 graphics.

NOTE*
Looking at the motherboard illustration, it is Wrong.
Shows - PCIEX1 (PCI E X1)
According to the specifications it is a PCIEX16 expansion slot. (PCI-E x16)

A PCI-Express x1 slot has 36 contact pins. 18 on each side.

In comparison a PCI slot {White} has 124 contact pins. 62 on each side.

Looking at the photo of the supposed PCI-E x1 slot they show, the black PCI-Ex1 slot is longer than the white PCI slots.

It is a PCI-Express x16 slot with 164 pins. 82 on each side.

The Asus ATI Radeon HD6450 uses a PCI-Express x16 expansion slot.

So you know the graphics card will fit. Low-profile to boot.

Power requirement:
The Compaq Presario SR2020NX desktop computer comes with a 300 Watt power supply.
(Although in actuality it's more like 70 percent of the maximum rated wattage. 210 Watts)

Enough power for the computer, and the graphics card.
ATI graphics cards do not use as much power as a comparable Nvidia graphics card.

Concerned that the Asus graphics card uses DDR3 graphics ram memory, and the Presario SR2020NX uses DDR2 Sdram ram memory?

Don't be. The graphics cards graphics memory runs independent of the computer's ram memory.

No signal on monitor

If there's no signal on monitor. Try to check the cables connected to your monitor. To isolate the issue, test that cable to a different monitor, or test that monitor to a different computer using a different monitor. By doing those things I mentioned above, you would be able to determine the root cause of the problem "no signal on monitor".

No lights and fans ? then how du u can say that power supply is ok. Is the fan inside the SMPS spinning ? if yes, remove the cpu cab. remove 24 pin power supply cables and 4 pin 12 v supply from the motherboard and re attached them. and try.

Computer won't turn on, you can hear the fans turn on, and the green lights turn on, but no screen.

check your connections to the monitor and pc make sure all your connections are secure. It could be a bad video card in the pc, bad cable or bad monitor.

Compaq presario sr2020nx ethernet adapter issue

Since youre setting up a DSL connection choose Set up broadband connection > PPPoE. You will need the username and password you were given to this account (contact customer service at your ISP for this info). Enter the info and have it remember the password. Click connect. Once Vista finds the connection, it will ask you to choose a network type (Home, Work, or Public). Select the type and enjoy. If the connection fails, recheck your username and password entries.
