I have an Onkyo TX-SR605 AV receiver that just stopped outputing video to my Panasonic projector. I have connected other devices directly to the projector and video is fine, so the problem is not the projector. I've triple-checked all cable connections and settings. Audio output is fine - just no video. I've disconnected all devices except the DirecTV satellite box. I'm running Component cables from the DirecTV box to the Component Input 2 connections on the Onkyo, and Component cables run from the Onkyo output to the projector. I'm not even using HDMI

Yes, I've connected the DirecTV box directly to the projector with the same component cables that were originally connected to the Component Output ports of the Onkyo. I've also swithed connecting the DirecTV box to all of the other inputs (Game/TV, Satellite, DVD, Aux, etc...) on the Onkyo, and the problem is the same regardless of which input I use. I've also moved the Component Input cables from IN1 to IN2 to IN3, and reprogrammed the video settings for the input to reflect the changes - same problem.

Thanks for trying, but I'm not there yet.

No, the DirecTV box works with the projector when I connect the two directly to each other with the Component cables.

I got no video output from the DirecTV box when I connect DirecTV to the Onkyo receiver, which is connected to the projector. All 5 channels of audio works fine, but there is no video signal.

I've tried all combinations of hooking up DirecTV to the various inputs on the Onkyo - same issue. I've been able to confirm there is nothing wrong with the projetor, nothing wrong with the DircTV box, and nothing wrong with the Component cables I'm using. I've also gone through the same trouble-shooting with an XBox360 instead of the DirecTV box - same video problem.

Goof information. Have you eliminated or proven the Onkyo as a cause by going direct to the projector? Try another Input and/or Output. It's best to know which component is broken and if it's limited to a specific subset of its function.

Settings are also indicated. Run through the video setup again. If it just stopped, what preceded it?

Sorry about the typo - I meant GOOD information. And good luck.

Forgive my denseness. Are you saying the DirectTV Box dosn't work with your projector even without the Onkyo in the mix? Would that not mean the problem is in either the DirectTV box or the projector and NOT the Onkyo?

Does any of this ring a bell?

If you connect a video component to a COMPONENT VIDEO IN, you must assign that input to an input selector. For example, if you connect your DVD player

to COMPONENT VIDEO IN 3, you must assign COMPONENT VIDEO IN 3 to the DVD input selector.

By default, the DVD input selector is assigned to COMPONENT VIDEO IN 1, and all of the other input selectors (i.e., VCR/DVR, CBL/SAT, GAME/TV, AUX 1,

AUX 2, TAPE, TUNER, CD, PHONO) are assigned to the “- - -” option.

If you’ve connected your TV to the AV receiver with a component video cable, you can set the AV receiver so that composite video and S-Video sources are upconverted (*) and output by the COMPONENT VIDEO OUT. You can set this for each input selector by selecting the “- - -” option.

    DVD------------------------- IN1

    VCR/DVR----------------- ---

    CBL/SAT ----------------- ---

    GAME/TV ---------------- ---

    AUX1 ----------------------- ---

    AUX2 ----------------------- ---

Just purchased a Panasonic DMT-350 with analog 7.1 out and hooked up to my Onkyo 989 but tried everything and i mean everything to get my rear surround to play but no luck....pleeeeeease help me.

Hi.

Connect the Panasonic to one of the AV inputs on the Onkyo. Use red white and yellow AV cables. Connect the output from the Panasonic to one of the five AV video inputs on the Onkyo (or use the DVD dedicated input in the Onkyo backpanel). I indicated this option using red arrows. You can use any of the AV inputs or the DVD input at the bottom. Just ensure you do not connect to an output at the back of the Onkyo.

Alternatively use component cables and optical audio input, as indicated using the blue arrows in picture below. Select source and listen surround from the Onkyo.

There are more options. In some case you may decide to connect the DVD video output to TV and the audio to the Onkyo.

Here a manual for the TX DS989.

Here the backpanel:

Sound won't play through Onkyo TX-SR605 when using HDMI

The chances are that you have selected an incorrect sound setting or not switched it on, for the HDMI you are using. With Onkyo receivers each connection will have it own settings for video and sound. You just need to look in the manual as to how to select the settings.

Subtitle Problem: Onkyo TX-sr605

The only remote that will definitely turn the sat subtitles on/off is the sat remote. The other subtitle buttons on the other remotes refer to the DVD subtitles and the subtitles generated by the tuner in the tv. The subtitle option is greyed out on the tv because you are not on the tv tuner.
