Loss of audio from onkyo 605
If the settings are correct, then it is just like the 605 I had, its broken. Get one made by someone else if the warranty has expired on it. I suggest Pioneer.
Can I plug a PC into one of the Onkyo HDMI ports? (TX-SR605)
Mike, I would agree. ANY device that either IS or emulates any hi-fi A/V device should work just fine assuming it doesn't deviate from the hardware standards of the 'real' hardware. Your Media PC is just another digital source as far as the receiver knows. Manuals don't mention everything because it is assumed that we know we can substitute compatible devices among the various in/outputs.However, my own practice is to run every signal directly to the best device that enhances or uses it. NO VIDEO to my AVR (it goes directly to my monitor); NO HIGH-END AUDIO to the TV (it goes directly to my receiver). NO EXCESSIVE CABLES. NO PROBLEMS WITH UNNECESSARY CONNECTIONS. NO CORRUPTION OF ANY THE SIGNAL.My PC's soundcard feeds both digital and analog audio inputs on my receiver so I have the flexibility of manipulating it in the analog domain for re-recording or just listening.
My TX-SR605 has two HDMI
Use an HDMI switcher
like this. Then you can select any of the three inputs and run it to the receiver. Simply leave the receiver on that input and use the switcher for source selection.
Unable to connect a blu ray dvd player to onkyo
Not sure what unable to connect means..but I will assume you have the correct cable.
First make sure you have plugged the from the HDMI cable from the DVD play into the IN 1 HDMI port on the back of your Onkyo
On the Receiver
Enter the Setup mode
Select INPUT OUTPUT ASSIGN
Next make sure the HDMI monitor out is set to YES on the Receiver
Monitor out
HDMI Monitor - YES
Next you need to assign the HDMI INPUT to DVD
Select INPUT OUTPUT ASSIGN
HDMI INPUT
DVD - IN1
CBL/SAT - IN2
This may be your issue.
Next step would be to verify your television input settings.
Nice receiver!
Best of luck!
I have the same problem
no mention of speaker wire size or length but the internal thermal shut down circuit is very sensitive, if even one channel goes into thermal protection it shuts the unit down, quick fix is cans of compressed air for computers and clean the inside of dust the factory set thermal cut off is 39.1 to 43 degrees celcius with an impedence check of not less than 4 ohms, your fan trick sounds like the right start the volume setting is not absolute there fore it may be your units actual voltage, amperage wattage conversion output is at its limit, heat is electronic death take great care to avoid heat, large amps have massive heat sinks your sony is not one of them
Everything powers up, presets work but no sound no
Sir! If you recently have bought this machine and it is new, don't cheat yourself out of your warranty. Go put on the lap of the people who sold it to you..............
My name is Constantin (arzconst is my internal nickname for Fixya.com)
0-83 error on onkyo tx nr 555
The 0-83 error indicates a problem with the firmware update.
Try resetting the receiver's BIOS by following these steps2:
Unplug all cables
Un-Power the receiver
Power the receiver
Before the receiver gets into the "Enter for updating" message, press Tone + CBL/SAT + ON/STANDBY. This will show you either the volume numbers or get you into settings of the receiver's speaker configuration.
Press CBL/SAT + ON/STANDBY. This will clear the BIOS and show a "Clear" message on the display. Wait until you hear a couple of clicking sounds for the receiver to turn on and off the power.

Onkyo nr 555 stuck on recovery:NET
Hello
Did you update the AVR over the internet?
If so the device wont work anymore.
You need to service the device in a nearest Onkyo service department.
