My girlfriend has the printer as described above, I took the covers off both ends to make sure the obstruction or whatever it was, was cleared. I hooked it back up to the computer, while the computer was turned on. I still get an error message 5010, can you tell me what I need to do to get it working again?

I had this problem with the ink carriage jammed at the left hand side of the printer. I operated the lever in a hole on the top left hand side and eased the carriage along to the middle and pushed it back onto it's runners. All OK now.

I got the error code 5010 today (scanner lock switch). I called Canon. The printer's electrical circuitry (brain) needs to be refreshed. This is similar to wireless routers and other devices. They directed me as follows: 1. power OFF the printer 2. Unplug the printer's power cord from the electrical source. 3. Wait AT LEAST 1 minute - no less than 1 minute. 4. After 1 minute, plug-in the printer to the electrical source. Turn on the printer - wait for it to warm up as usual and it should be ok. Mine worked perfectly after the above steps. - Hope this helps.

There's no specific info on a 5010 error even on Canon website, but ANY error in between 5000-9999 needs Canon's attention, so if it's under warranty, get a replacement.

5010 is a scanner error, either worn out scan lamp or sensors. Canon only replaces the entire scan assembly, if you like I can get part number and price.
