Cannon MP500 Error Code 5010

My girlfriend has the printer as described above, I took the covers off both ends to make sure the obstruction or whatever it was, was cleared. I hooked it back up to the computer, while the computer was turned on. I still get an error message 5010, can you tell me what I need to do to get it working again?

SOURCE: Cannon PIXMA MP520 Problem: Error code

I had this problem with the ink carriage jammed at the left hand side of the printer. I operated the lever in a hole on the top left hand side and eased the carriage along to the middle and pushed it back onto it's runners. All OK now.

SOURCE: error code 5010

I got the error code 5010 today (scanner lock switch). I called Canon. The printer's electrical circuitry (brain) needs to be refreshed. This is similar to wireless routers and other devices. They directed me as follows: 1. power OFF the printer 2. Unplug the printer's power cord from the electrical source. 3. Wait AT LEAST 1 minute - no less than 1 minute. 4. After 1 minute, plug-in the printer to the electrical source. Turn on the printer - wait for it to warm up as usual and it should be ok. Mine worked perfectly after the above steps. - Hope this helps.

SOURCE: error code 5010

There's no specific info on a 5010 error even on Canon website, but ANY error in between 5000-9999 needs Canon's attention, so if it's under warranty, get a replacement.

SOURCE: printer will not print, error code 5010 is

5010 is a scanner error, either worn out scan lamp or sensors. Canon only replaces the entire scan assembly, if you like I can get part number and price.

I have a cannon pixma mp 500 printer and I and getting a error code 5010 how can I fix this issue? Thank You

unfortuantely according to canon website, if turning it off/on doesn't clear the error then it will require a "repair service". Doesn't acutally say what the problem is I'm afraid.

good luck

Hi please find above a service manual, this will assist you to troubleshoot and repair your issue.
error 5010 The scanner has not retracted to the normal starting point. This often means a faulty sensor, or faulty main board. use the service manual to troubleshoot and repair.
This seems to be a fairly common problem.

Error code 5010

This error is related to your cartridge carriage (the white sliding mechanism which holds the cartridges). This happens when it can't move properly and freely. You'll need to open up the front portion of the printer to get into this. Try somehow and apply some grease on the slider so that it'll lubricate it and check whether it helps or not.
(You may also require to open the top cover which holds the front cover and remove the screws which hold the sliding mechanism). If you do it very carefully and applying the grease properly, this will fix the problem.
Good luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Error code 5010

Canon only lists three 4-digit error codes for the MP500: 1700, 1851, and 1856. After much research and finding many other MP500 owners getting this same strange code, I have come to conclude that it's the code of DEATH. Sometimes you may get strange codes if using compatible ink cartridges. Unless you can get the printer to reset and clear, the only other thing to try is to go back to the Canon driver download page and reload the correct driver: http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=DownloadDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=334&modelid=11995

ERROR CODE 5010

Hi Friend,
kindly follows the below 2 steps

1.Reset the device when it is not functioning properly. If the device is not functioning properly or to clear memory, reset it.
  1. On the operator panel, press and hold the <ON/OFF> button for one second. (The display will go blank.)

Note: It may be necessary to unplug the power cord if pressing the ON/OFF button does not shut off the printer.

  2. Wait approximately ten seconds and then press the <ON/OFF> button again.

  3. Wait until the device has completed its cycling process before submitting another job request.

2.The MP510 may require repair

Unfortunately, the issue you describe seems to indicate that your product requires repair service. Canon has excellent service options and we are eager to provide any assistance you may need.
