I just got this maybe a year ago, but i've only used it maybe 3 times. When I turn it on, it stays on for like 3 seconds, and then says shutting down. It's plugged up to my computer charging, so it shouldn't be the battery. Help!
Exactly the same problem. Don't know what to do because no icon comes up on my mac.Exactly the same problem. Don't know what to do because no icon comes up on my mac.
I just posted this same question on the 40gig forum (not sure which gig mine is). Are you have the same wording coming up on your screen as I am? Please read below:
My unit runs fine as long as it is running with it's power cord plugged in. As soon as you unplug the cord or try to power the unit portable, the following comes up after the Archos wording appears on the screen: "! Shutting Down" and then it immediatly shuts itself off!
I have charged it many hours and then checked the battery and it shows a charged reading, so I don't believe this is a battery issue.I just posted this same question on the 40gig forum (not sure which gig mine is). Are you have the same wording coming up on your screen as I am? Please read below:

Exactly the same problem - 5th Archos I've owned, they are lovely but prone to "shutting down" problems (3 of mine have done this) - I'll never get another: dont know if the battery is at fault - anyone any ideas?Exactly the same problem - 5th Archos I've owned, they are lovely but prone to "shutting down" problems (3 of mine have done this) - I'll never get another: dont know if the battery is at fault - anyone any ideas?
I've got the same problem. I've even tried to press a reset button ) Charging it for hours doesn't help, it shuts down even while the cable is plugged. Still trying to think anything up. I'll write back if something new will appear. By the way, it doesn't shut down while in recovery mode. May be formatting HDD can help..I've got the same problem. The solution is found! There's no need to format your HDD So. - Unplug the battery; - Press and hold the reset button for 20-25 sec; - Put the battery back to it's place; - Charge your device (when you plug the cable in, it turns on (note that a blinking lightning icon appears on the charging indicator), then it turns off with it's "shutting down" message, dont pay attention on this, just let it charge for about 10-15 minutes (note that the CHG bulb won't be lit)); - Turn on your device. The CHG bulb is lit, Archos doesn't shut down - Enjoy
This happens because the charge indicator "gets mad" and sais to archos that the battery is full and it won't charge. But actually there is no charge in the battery, so it has nothing to do but to shut down. This happens because the charge indicator "gets mad" and sais to archos that the battery is full and it won't charge. Did you ever find a resolution for this issue? I know it was posted over a year ago, but now mine is doing the same thing, randomly beeps 3-4 times rapidly whether or not is in use and never shuts off. Also none of the buttons work, just makes it beep as well. However, it still responds when pedaling and adjusts the resistance, just can't select a workout mode. Can only power off by unplugging otherwise the display stays on and keeps beeping every ten seconds or so
3 days ago - I have to hold the power button for 5 seconds for my laptop to turn offcompletely. ... I tried removing my battery completely, and started the windows with my A/C adapter and then shut it down ... when i shutdown my pc , my pc has get shutdown but the power light in my cpu tower ... Can't find your answer ?
Just replace the bulb first. They last a long time, but after a while if they don't simply blow, they will start to shut off for short periods, then restart. The odd thing is the whole set shuts down too, so something else also may be happening, maybe to do with the temperature control circuitry, that causes a full system shut down. My TV repair man said try this first before I bring the unit in for a diagnostic. Transporting them is not an easy thing to do, given the size of these TVs. I originally bought 3 extra bulbs in 2005, and now used up the last one, and I use the TV a lot.
Strange because I have the same issue, and I've had this printer for over 3 years but the problem just started about a month ago.
I reset the printer by:
1) Unplug power to the printer
2) Hold #6 on the keyboard
3) Plug power cord back in while holding #6
Eventually (10 seconds?) the printer will shut down. Once it does, release #6 and power up the printer again.
Warning: This reset all the configuration settings.
This works for me, but there is still an issue because I have to repeat this every time I turn off/on the printer.
Format the SD memory card.
Get the 5 volt charger and charge 3 hours.
Format the internal memory.
Menu button and change to power save.
Do not use the flash all the time.
