Is the ice maker working ? If so , the filter is not the problem . At the bottom of the freezer door ( remove the kick plate ) , there will be a water line . Follow this line , about 6 " to a connector . Push in on the white ring and pull out the line , at the same time . Activate the water dispensor pad and see if water flows from the line under the refrig . If it does , then the line in the door is frozen . Either raise the freezer temp for several days , so the line in the door will thaw , or , I have heard using an air tank will blow the ice out of the line in the door . If no water comes from the line under the refrig , while activating the pad , then replace the water valve , behind the refrig , the piece the wall water line connects to on the refrig .

We have a Samsung fridge for which the icemaker no longer works. The Samsung folks said the signal between the icemaker and filter is not functioning properly - how do I test this? Many thanks!!

First, I'm not a Sam Sung representative.
* check your warranty. Call for service.

*** Following is for information only.***
* I came across the filter reset by accident. I had removed the filter to demonstrate to the wife how easy it is to change.
* After a day or two the "change filter" light came on. Pulling the filter out and re-inserting it (as in a filter change) would not reset the filter error.
* Then I noticed the display says to press and hold 3-5 seconds. It cleared the error.
* No ice and no water? Clogged water filter. Replace.
* Still no Ice and water? Water line turned off or clogged. Check.
* Got water but no ice? Wait 3 or more hours, to give the ice maker time to make ice.
* Still no ice? No cranking sounds? Call for service.
* No ice but got cranking sounds? Look for obstruction in door.
* No sounds, No water, No ice? Check if all doors are closed. Is there an open door alarm? Check if doors are even with refrigerator.
* Call for service.

I have a refrigerator model #GD5PHAXMS10 icemaker that stopped working about two and a half weeks ago. At that time the water the water works dispenser worked like normal. Today the water dispenser...

Hello,

The first thing to do if you already haven't is replace the filter,it's in the grill/kickplate below the freezer door. If you have relpaced filter,need to pull refrig from wall and check that their is good water pressure from house plumbing,if it is good the water valve the sends water to icemaker&door dispenser when water is called for is going to be the problem.The part # for that valve is 4389177 it could be purchased at your local appliance parts store on oline at;
searspartsdirect.com
apdepot.com
repairclinic.com
assuredparts.com

The filter BUT NOT the water valve could be purchased locally at Sears,Lowe's or Home Depot

I hope this helps you to diagnose your icemaker/dispenser

Machine is getting stuck and wont go into spin cycle.

This is almost certainly a simple problem with your empty pump filter being clogged. The empty cycle is timed and if it can't get all the water out in time because the filter is blocked and slowing the empty down, then it will fail safe and won't step on to the final spin cycle with excess water in the drum. While it's trying to get the water evacuated, you will probably see the machine doing a slow tumble for up to 8 minutes and you may also hear the empty pump running too.
You need to locate and clean the filter. Depending on the model (You haven't stated the model here, so I can't be sure) there is probably a round filter cap on the front of the machine at the bottom (It may be behind a small door or hidden behind a clip on panel on the bottom) Many models of this design also have a small hose to the right of the filter cap that you can pull out, remove a plug from and drain off any water in the filter before you remove the filter and get your floor wet, so take a look for this before you remove the filter and get soaked.

Not making ice after changing filter.

Hi and welcome to FixYa I am Kelly.

A new filter can take several cycles of the ice maker to fill the filter up with water before. The average filter is around 30 oz and the average ice maker fill cycle is 3.2 oz. The new filter did not have any water in it. The water in the door has a resercoir so the air in the filter will still make the water work until you get air. Drain abour 3 tall glasses from the water in door. The ice maker should then work properly. The filter filters water for water in door (inside) and the ice maker so if you have water inside the door you should have ice UNLESS one of the inlet water valve solenoids has failed. Also make sure the Freezer door / light switch functions properly. The door switch is supposed to stop water and ice functions with the door open.

I would like to know if it starts making ice.

It's a Kenmore Model 106-56712500 , can't shut off alarm after changing filter, and now won't make ice or dispense water! How do I do a proper re-set code?

The 106.xxxxoooo Models are made by Whirlpool.
  • Whirlpool and KitchenAid - press the light switch 5 times within 10 seconds.
  • NOTE: If the fridge has a filter button, press and hold it for 5-10 seconds.

  • Changing the water filter should not cause the water and ice in door to not work. The actual freezer door switch will cause this problem. When the door is open ice and water in door are disabled. The door switch is a 3 contact switch. One contact is common, one turns the light on / off and one disables / enables ice and water in door. Manually depressing the door switch in the door fold hinge area should enable the water in door function. Do NOT test the ice function. If after you depress the light / door switch the light does not go out and the water in door does not work then the door switch has failed. The door switch is released from the cabinet by sliding either a putty knife or a knife blade along one side to unlock the locking tab. If the switch only has 2 terminals you have removed the wrong door switch. Check the other door.

If your refrigerator has the wiring harness on the bottom of the door hinge there is the possibility that during the water filter change the connection of the door wiring connectors was loosened or broken. Just check to make sure that there is not a harness on the bottom of the door hinge. If there is a harness on the bottom of the door hinge make sure the connectors are connected.

If you need more assistance just respond here and I will gladly help you.

I changed the filter and no ice has been made since that time. No water runs in now. The icemaker worked great until I changed the filter.

Suggest you take the filter out again and inspect for anything obvious. If nothing problematic seen, replace filter with another new one to be sure and retest. Make sure water tap is opened fully.

Water dispenser suddenly not dispensing water

Remove the bottom kick plate . Follow the plastic line about 6" and you'll find a connector . Push in on one end of the connector and at the same time , pull the line out . Close the door and press for water . If no water comes out of the disconnented line , the water valve is probably bad . If water does come out , the line inside the freezer door is frozen . If this turns out to be so , you can lower the freezer temp for maybe days , or , put the food on the door, inside the freezer , tape the light switch down ( to keep the lite off and fan running ) and tape plastic over the freezer door opening so the freezer will continue to work . Reinstall the line back into the connector by pushing the hose firmly into place . Leave the freezer door open for maybe 1 or 2 days for thawing out , going by ocassionally and pressing the water dispensor . Important : lower the freezer temperature slightly to keep line from freezing again . ONLY CHANGE THE FILTER WHEN WATER FLOW SLOWS OR ICE CUBES GET SMALL . The change filter lite comes on by the amount of times water dispensor is used and to make money for the vendor .
