A "mailbox not set up" message is coming from your telephone line voice mail system, and not from your telephone answeringmachine. What this means is that the voice mail on the phone line is picking up before the answering machine has a chance, and since the mailbox hasn't been set up it can't take any messages. So there are two things you'll need to do.
First, you'll need to set up your voice mail. You may need to contact your telephone service provider for setup instructions since not all systems are the same, but here's how it usually works. From your home phone, call your own number so you reach your voice mail. You should get the message that your mailbox hasn't been set up, and will be prompted for an access code to get to the setup menu. The access code is usually the last four digits of your phone number, and you'll be prompted to change it to something else as part of the setup. Through the setup main menu you can record your greeting and set up other options like the ring count before the voice mail answers. Set it for a number larger than the setting on your telephone answering machine. (I have my answering machine set to 4 rings, and voicemail set to 6.)
Step two is to verify the ring setting on your answering machine. Four rings is a common default setting, but it's adjustable on the phone. Most newer phones have menus that you access from the handset to set change settings, while older models have a switch on the base unit.
Once the mailbox is set up and you have your answering machine set to pick up first, everything will work as you want.
I had the same probelm:My phone started using a female to tell me if somebody called to sent a text message. Phone: LG Lotus LX600 Solution: Tools -> 6)Voice Control -> 5)Voice GuideSet Alert to OffSet Reader to Off I don't know how it got into this state, but turning off the Voice Guide Alert and Reader made it go away.
I will try to help you with your problem even though you have not identified your make and model phone and you are in the wrong category. I will try to help you by telling you what I would do with my phone to change this setting. The procedure for changing your phone is probably different ... but perhaps you will get some insight from my remarks.
This is for calls and messages - My phone is a **** style LG. On the left side there are two buttons. I press the bottom one to get a menu list. Next I press the Right Soft Key called 'settings'. Next I select item number 6 called "call alert" I press OK. My three options are ( ) ring only or ( ) Caller ID and Ring ( ) Name Repeat.
I use (>) caller ID + ring and I hear the number or the name of the caller if in my phone book then the ring I have selected for that caller or texter.
Specific for messages ... I select Settings & Tools then I select Sound Settings then I select Alert Sounds then I select Test Messages and then I make my setting.
I hope this assists you with your settings even though I feel you probably dont have the same phone as I.
There is this thing on Norstar systems called Reply message... this turns on your voicemail light, but there is on messages when you go into the mailbox.
Try this: FEATURE # 6 5 There might be something on you set that will tell you who sent the message, and you can hit the # or press the OK button to cancel this message!
I had the same problem and found that the speed dial feature in "settings" is not turned on by default even though voice mail number is pre-programed into the speed speed list. Go to "Settings & Tools/Call Settings/One Touch Dial" and turn the option on. Cheers, Don Devine
Press the mute/program button, then press the caller ID-volume button
to select handset setup. Next press caller ID-volume until you get to
Default settings. Use the caller ID-volume button to select 1yes. This
will return the phone to the factory settings and for took care of the
blinking blue light, however you will loose any custom setting or
numbers you entered.
In the even your new voice message alert flashing gets out of sync with your phone company's voice messaging system, you can reset it bact to the original "no messages waiting", non-flashing state. To do this, with the phone in the standby mode and in its cradle, press and hold find hs (find handset) on the base until the paging sound stops (about 5 seconds). The flashing will stop.
Here is what is suppose to happen. Once you leave a message at Rogers, they are to send your phone a "stutter dial tone" signal back to your phone. When you phone gets this signal, it is to light your messag light. So we need to figure out if Rogers is sending the signal, and if your light is working. So, leave yourself a message. Give Rogers a minute or two to send the signal. Pick up your phone to make a call. Do you hear a "stuttery" type dial tone? If not, it sounds as if the Rogers system is not providing the signal. Okay, if your light is not on, then lets test the light by taking the Rogers VM out of the equation. Go to your Panasonic answering machine menu, and turn it on, then turn the number of rings set to 1, and save that. Now call the phone. It should answer after a ring or two, and your call should never make it to Rogers AM. Leave a message and see if your Panasonic answering machine takes the message and lights the light. If it does not light the light even though your message was recorded and saved, then you may have a bad light. If it lights the light, go back into your menu and turn the machine off, and look for any settings regarding using the "telephone company voice mail" or review your message light settings, etc. Hope this helps
