Carefully take the projector apart. Find someone with an air compressor once the cover is taken off of the projector and you can then get to the main fan from both sides. Blow it out as much as possible and make sure to put emphasis on the fan. Re-Assemble the projector and everything should work fine after that. Mine did the fan lock thing right when I put the new lamp in and this fixed it after Optoma told me to send it in for service. I had nothing to lose because I would buy a new projector before I spent that much to fix this one. Truest me it works.

The lamp probably blew because the fan stopped. if the lamp can't cool down, it blows. you'll have to find out which fan and replace it.

Had the same problem with my HD65 Optoma. After replacing the lamp... Fan Locked. If you hear a fan running more than likely it is the bigger fan beside the lamp. The other fan inside the two little squared holes is what's locked. To get to it one must remove the mother board. When I got the fan out and cleared it there was a CHIP OF THE PREVIOUS BROKEN BULB THAT LODGED THE FAN BLADE.

To disassemble the projector is not extremely hard for a novice who has disassembled electronics before. One should just take there time removing the connectors. I believe there is a disassembly video out there. Along with a standard small Phillip head screw drive, one will need a small hexagonal socket thing (Sorry cannot recall the size I used. I have a set).

I have had my hd65 for about two years. 7 months ago i had the red blinking kight start and couldnt afford to buy new bulb. i recently bought new bulb....installed it and now im getting no power to the...

It will be due to the missing cover, as the lamp module gets very hot. You could possibly make one, I wouldn't like to guarentee the safety of it though. Usually the cover has a pin or something that engages a safety switch. Maybe the manufacturer Optoma can supply a new cover, the cost would ensure safety from a fire.

Good luck

Not sure if this is the solution, but I just had the exact same problem. I came here hoping for a solution but there was none? Anyway I started over, rotated the fan and then reinstalled the lamp. This time it worked? So there you go.

Try putting the bulb into normal (rather than eco) setting.
Check the bulb is seated correctly.
If this does not help you may have to contact your bulb supplier to see if they can swap bulb for you.

Optoma hd65 projector new bulb wont turn on...cant reset timer!

I think it's a lamp driver issue from what I've seen others have gone through. I also read that if you go through the sequence of unplugging, plug back in, wait 20 seconds and try to turn on, multiple times, it will finally kick on and work. I just got mine to turn back on by doing this and waiting through the fan cycling without the light turning on. After the 4th sequence the light flickered. After the 7th sequence it finally turned on and is working. Now I can watch the Super Bowl and will look into replacing soon.
