I'm a bit confused about what you are trying to do? DVD recorders don't tune in to TV's anymore. They output the signal to the TV via a connector such as HDMI. To record the recorder will need an aerial feed etc, which can be split using a splitter between what feeds the TV and Recorder.
When you are auto tuning the system will not store a channel which is week by its standard ( at least 60% signal strength ) This done to avoid grainy picture and hissy sound. You can go into manual tuning and store it.
If you can get a picture on your TV when you watch a video tape you are half way there. On the back of the VCR there are two coax connections, you may need a flashlight but one will be labeled IN and the other OUT. The one that is labeled Out will be connected to the TV. The other one (IN) is where the Cable from the wall connects into. After you have the connections made turn your TV to either Channel 3 or 4. You will now use your VCR remote to change channels.
These are the basic instructions without knowing what model VCR you have. If the TV will not stay on channel 3 or 4 then you will either need to get it repaired or get a new TV.
Please fine tune those B/W channels to obtain color picture. If TV is more then 4 - 5 years old, it needs resoldering in tuning area or might need replacement of IF block.
If you are in the US, the TV set has to be on channel 3 or 4, if your in the UK, the TV would have to be on a UHF channel. It should say on the RF output of the VCR what station you must tune to ,or in the instruction book of the VCR. Good Luck
1. Check the TV's horizontal and vertical hold.
2. If there is a VCR connected:
Shut off the VCR. If the problem clears up, the VCR is not properly ?fine-tuned.? Turn the VCR on and troubleshoot the VCR problems.
3. If a converter is connected to your TV and VCR:
The VCR needs to be on channel 4.
VCR may not be ?fine-tuned? to channel 4. Locate and adjust the fine-tuning mechanism until the picture comes in clearly.
The <3/4> switch may be in the wrong position. Locate the switch on the back of the VCR and set it to <4>.
4. Check the fine-tuning of your TV.
good luck :-)
