SOURCE: Toshiba Satellite M45 Power Problem
Hi,
Your concern (auto shutting down) with Toshiba
could be caused by excessive power drain by some of the attached
devices such as the WiFi, LAN among others. On the other hand, it could
also indicate that the battery is already weak and constantly requires
charging and at times eats up most of the power from the adapter
leaving nothing for the motherboard to use. In some repairs I have
done, switching off / or removing entirely unneeded devices correct the
problem. In some instances, auto shut down is caused by dirty/clogged
airducts/heatsink of the processor, failing blower/fan and/or poor
ventilation.
Of course, it could not be ruled out that internal problem with the power supply/regulator to have caused the shut down. Alternately, there are some viruses and malwares that could trigger shutdowns.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.
Good luck and kind regards.
Thank you for using FixYa.

if its not under the laptop, it can only be under the keyboard.
SOURCE: I changed the inverted in my toshiba satellite
Sounds like the screen itself is bad or possibly the plug is bad to the inverter or motherboard. The videocard sounds like its ok.
Testimonial: "I tighten up the inverter connector and the screen worked, but for a little while. This helped me in the process of elimination"

if you have an anti-virus and an anti-malware prog. installed, then update them and run them! you might be surprised at the amount of junk you have slowing your system down! also, click 'start', then 'all programs', then accessories, then 'system tools', then 'disk clean', after that runs and you clear out the 'dead-wood' (junk temp. files, etc.), then run 'defrag' hdd, next down from 'disk clean'. run 'analyze', if defrag. % is high, run defrag. may take a while, but will 'glue' your progs. closer together! and get rid of 'fragments' of older files.
if you don't have an anti-virus, i recommend 'a2'- google it and download. save it and install it. make sure you update the virus definitions before you run it. if you don't have an anti-malware- then i recommend either 'ad-aware' or 'spybots&d', make sure you get the right site for it, there are sites that have very similar names! as 'a2', update definitions before running!! you will be shocked at how many 'baddies' you have messing with your OS! these are all free! for the basic service. you can try them, and if satisfied, upgrade ( for a modest price), for expanded coverage- but the basics work quite well.don't fail to 'immunize' on spybots&d, after you download new definitions! you may have to click on immunize a second time to finish the process! this helps protect against future installations of these 'mal-wares'! quite a bargain for free-ware! i've used them for several years, and find that they work quite well!
good luck!

When we talk about laptop won't boot up it is a hardware failure.
First of all, most of the hardware failures
that are going to be presented in this article require you to
disassemble the laptop and work on its internal components. Because of
this, you need the required components to take the laptop apart (such
as screwdrivers, etc.) and space, lots of space. If you don't have a
workbench, then working on that large table in the living room should do it.
Second of all, you need to be extra careful
about ESD (electrostatic discharge). Sure, this is important when
working with a desktop system too, but you really shouldn't consider
this as some sort of overreaction or waste of time. A few anti-static
conductive bags should suffice. These are going to be useful when you
take apart components from the laptop and you need a safe place to put
them down.
If the laptop does not power on using the
batteries, then try to power it using the AC adapter. Pay attention and
see whether the LED on the laptop lights up, signaling that the adapter
was detected. If yes, then your power jack works. If the notebook still
does not power on, disassemble the laptop and remove the batteries.
Look first for the CMOS battery and take it out.
Your best bet is that the problem is
memory-related. What you need to do is re-seat the memory modules. If
there are more than one, then try swapping them between each other and
try different slots. Try booting again. If it does not work, then try
running with only one module - this way, you can tell whether one is
faulty.
Disassemble the laptop and remove the HDD,
CD/DVD drives, and the modem and/or wireless card(s). If possible, take
out the sound card module (if separate). To minimize the possible
causes, you may disconnect the LCD panel as well. Try running this way.
If it does boot, then try connecting each connector one at a time,
booting up in between to localize the problem.
Good
luck and take time to do a hard troubleshooting this trouble is not
easy as well. You need to be care full in removing the some parts so
that the other will not affected and being damaged.
