Lens error, restart camera.......... that's the reading I get on the lcd display. after I restart the camera the message just appears again. please help!

FEE error message displayed on SLR camera LCD Description If the cameras LCD screen displays "FEE" in the area where the aperture is normally displayed, please ensure that the lens is attached to the camera correctly. This error message will appear if the lens is not attached correctly to the camera or if you are not using a CPU lens such as the Nikon AF or Nikkor P lenses. Alternatively, if the lens has an aperture ring, it may not be set to f22 (or the highest aperture number on the aperture ring - normally marked in orange). Select the aperture number marked in orange on the lens and lock it using the aperture locking switch to prevent this occurring again.

That the EE servo coupling highlighted above on the lenses has not been broken. That the F-min switch highlighted above on the camera body has not been broken. If either of the two items above are broken please contact your local Nikon service center.

Camera detected this error while moving the lens and cut the power automatically. This error message may appear if you press on the lens while its moving. Make sure that when your going to turn on the camera, your hand or fingers will not block the lens to retrack. Turning on the camera in a dusty or sandy environnment is also one reason for this message to be displayed.
Try to remove the battery and re-insert it, then turn on the camera again. If the message still persist, take the camera to a service center because there may be a problem with the lens.

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ... Unfortunately, many cameras that fall prey to this can only be corrected by professional repair. But, here are some things that you can do that may correct it. yes, this happened to me, what you have to do is "snap" the lens back in place, if it is bent anyway. if it is not bent and it says lens error, does it the lens come in and out? if not then it is bent if so then there is a hardware error in the switch and you will have to send it to a profesionall. :) hope i could be some help :)

Sort of like a Windows Restart to reset the memory.

This error message appears when the camera detects a problem with the lens when it's turned on. This is often caused by the user pressing on the lens when it is trying to extend, or the camera is being used in a dusty or sandy environment. When this message appears turn the camera off and back on, and this should resolve your issue. If this message continues to appear you should have the camera looked at by an authorized service technician because there is probably a problem with the lens.

Seems you may just have to remove and replace the battery - sort of like a Windows Restart to fix a computer problem! - this would reset your camera's memory.
