Newly pruchased Craftsman 10" bench drill press chuck wobbles slightly. Is there a way to eliminate the wobble?
If this is a new tool I would take it back and get it replaced. The only other way to eliminate this problem is to determine if it is the spindle or the chuck and replace the defective unit. Warranty works better.
that is an industry standard chuck you are talking about, the jam is a taper fit and it is referred to as a Jacobs Taper, all you need to do is find out if it a 1, 2 or 3 taper and find a replacement accordingly, and the block of wood is also a standard practice, clean both surfaces with something like brake clean and then dry with a paper towel prior to reinstalling, let me know if you need any more help and thank you for the rating.

Thanks. I did take back the unit since I had it less than 2 weeks. I got another and it is 'better', but there is still a slight amount of wobble. The chuck is 'jammed' onto the spindle. The manual suggest using a piece of wood against the bottom of the chuck and a hammer to 'jam' the chuck up onto the spindle. I don't know if that's the 'normal way' a chuck is attached or not, but it seems to leave a lot of room for the kind of problem I'm seeing. I've read a good bit on line and apparently the Craftsman line of drills don't have a industry standard spindle size so aftermarket chucks won't fit. Heck, I'd spend the $ to get Jacob's chuck, but if it won't fit what's the use?
