I have the actiontec gt704wg dsl modem that I got from Qwest. The last few months I often lose my internet connection. The only way I get it back is by turning the modem off for a few seconds and then turning it on. It appears to me to be a problem with the actiontec. would you agree?

It sounds like a firmware issue or problem. Have you tried updating the firmware of the router? If not, download the latest firmware from actiontec website and install it to your router. Note: After successfully updating the firmware, you need to hard reset the router. Press the reset button at the back of the router for 30 second then unplug the power for 30 seconds as well then plug it back n.

Can I connect a GT704WG to a COMCAST SciAlt modem and have wireless

No. The uplink for the Actiontec is the DSL port. You would be better off purchasing a router from a retailer instead of a gateway modem/router combo like the Actiontec

I have DSL through Qwest and can connect to the internet, but the modem will drop internet connection then come back on then drop again. I will unplug the modem and restart it; it will connect then drop...

check the configuration of the modem if you can. I do not know the exact model of the modem, could you post it? then with the exact model of the modem you could google it for a Manual, Handbook, or simply good configurations. If the configurations are good, then could be the firmware that is not updated, or in the last case ask Qwest to change your modem for one that works.
A piece of advice don't open it or modify it because you could void the warranty, in case of a change.

Hope this help you!!!

When power switch is turned on the Power light is rapidly flashing & the 4 Ethernet lights are flashing. The box is Actiontec GT704wg

I do not have a solution to the problem. However, I am having the same problem. This morning the Actiontec GT704WG power and ethernet lights were rapidly flashing. The modem was non-functional. I could not even connect to the modem through the browser to see if I could find a problem.

The problem lasted a couple of hours. Then all of a sudden the modem started working again. I won't be able to tell if the problem recurs until I restart the modem. And if the problem does occur again, I won't be able to connect to the internet.

I have had this same problem with Qwest using a new iMac and MacBook on the Actiontec modem. Qwest did two things: first we reset the modem which was fairly simple and took only about 5 minutes. However, this fix lasts only a few weeks and it comes back. I have just ordered a new modem since there seems to be a problem with the Actiontec device with the newer high speed internet.
I'd try the reset before doing anything else. Good luck.

Constant intermittent loss of connectivity, even with new gt704wg router

Hi,
It might be that you have a voltage drop. I noticed that this modem is very sensitive to voltage 'dips' and it will 'reset' itself if even the slightest dip in power hits it.
I have a A/C that sucks power when it cycles and every time it does I lose the internet connection. So I set up a 12 volt battery with an DC to AC inverter and run the modem off of battery power.

That might be the problem your having.
