Rachellem775, before you install the hard drive into your computer.. you need to check the setting on the hard drive that you're going to install.. on the hard drive itself it has a sticker with the settings, you need to make the 2nd hard drive that you're going to install as a SLAVE drive.. you can check that on the sticker.. after that, you can connect the cables to the hard drive next to the main hard drive.. that would make the old hard drive as the main drive and your new harddrive as the slave drive.. you can interchange the settings, check the sticker on your hard drive.. all hard drive have that setting information..

This is an easy part if you know how to take the old one out...start first by taking the cover and then look for the hard drive that you need to change and you will see two screws on each side and they may be on a track and the back of the driver you will see a cable with color on one end and the power cable you may have also a small cable on the front if not it is ok...take all of the off and redo the process again in reverse with the new one...good luck. make sure that the pins on the new driver are the same as the old one (they are the setting for the driver). let me know if that work and please remember to rate my service so I am able to continue provide quality service and improve on it with your help. God bless

Cant re install built in webcam after installing new hard drive

When you went to the Gateway website and downloaded drivers, did you notice that under drivers there was nothing for the webcam? Use this link and download the webcam application under Applications tab. The driver is included in the application.

I have a old gateway pc and I would like to install a Hard Drive from a Dell pc into it. Can it be done?

Swapping the hard drive from the Dell into the Gateway will not work because the Dell hard drive has been installed with Dell specific drivers and configurations.
When you install the Dell hard drive into the Gateway you need to wipe the hard drive and install a fresh copy Windows XP onto this hard drive and the Gateway device drivers etc.

I have an older Gateway laptop that I rarely took out of house

you'll have to buy a new but tough to find 2.5'' serial-ATA hard drive, this should solve your problems but you'll have to reinstall any operating system and also all of the data on the current hard drive will be lost.

Can I install the hard drive from one computer to another?

you open gateway and remove hard drive, then you open the compaq and remove that HDD then you install HDD from gateway power on and you should be good, you may have to reinstall some drivers but unlikely if all your periphs. are the same, the HDD is going to attached to a ribbon cable and will usually be under all other drives in machine

How much should installing I tunes on a new gateway FX model slow downloads from other links?

If the resources for the machine are a quad core processor with 6 gigs of memory and a 640 gig hard drive, then not at all. Are you running Windows Vista 64bit edition? Ive had issues with itunes running properly under this OS. Grab the latest copy from Apple's website (make sure you uninstall the old copy first, do not install the new copy on top of the old one). Check for any Windows updates and install them before installing the new itunes.

I had an old pc case with everything but a hard drive so I took my old hard drive out and placed it in the other hard rive less pc. Now it is saying the hard drive can not be found , how do I get my...

make sure that the hard drive is on one cable the ide and that the power is run to it, there is also a jumper setting on the back of the hard drive, you want this little jumper to be on the "master" setting. lastly resetting the bios to defaults will ensure that bios will detect the old hard drive. it will prompt you what key to press to enter bios. generally the key will be F2 F1 delete or TAB try pressing each of these before the computer beeps. in all reality there is much more to replacing a hard drive then plugging it in windows will need to be reinstalled as well as the drivers will be designed to run off the other computer

Only recignises the HP as- storage device

Hi, Have you checked the boot sequence in bios? Make sure it is booting from the hard drive first. If that still doesn't work, maybe it's because this is a different motherboard that you are installing the hard drive to. You might need to obtain a win xp cd and perform a repair of the Operating System or just wipe all data off (if you don't need any on it) and do a fresh install of windows xp.
