I receive a no operation system message while

Buy a new hard disk drive! Use the 2 golden Gateway, Applications, Drivers, & Operating System disc, also known as Restoration DVD to reinstall your Gateway programs & operating system. After that, reinstall your backups.

How much disk space do you need? Why buy a 320 GB HDD if you only use 4 GB? So, keep the bytes down if you don't need them and that will keep the costs down, too!

The Gateway support discs can be had at: www.Gateway.com/Support .

My internal hard drive crashed, can i clear out

Hi I am Steve, lets get you some help
As you are talking about a hard drive I assume you have turned off RAID.

It does depend why the hard drive has failed. If it is an actual failure of the drive then it needs replacing and the data is lost except from data recovery firms.
However, it may be that the hard disk controller has stopped working. This will prevent you getting to your hard disc.
Your motherboard should have 2 hard disc controllers. Try plugging the hard disc into the second controller, this will be on the motherboard next the the one it is already plugged into. This may solve the issue. If not then it is a hard disc failure and you will need to replace it and use a professional service to recover the data.

Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA

How do i find what hard drive i need for gateway

Check the make and model of the motherboard, then log onto the motherboard manufacturers web site and download the relevant user guide. This should give you all the details you need.

A couple of hints, if its a laptop you'll need a 2.5 inch drive.

If its a desktop, a 3.5 inch drive.

Check the mother board for IDE or SATA interfaces,

If its got just the old fashioned IDE (PATA) interface that governs the type of drive you can use
if its got both, go for SATA they're bigger, Cheaper and quicker.

If you're going to use windows XP, the older PATA makes life easier.

On the image below you can see the location of the hard drive. In the manual of this model, starting from page 51 you can find information regarding how to gain access to internal components.

If this is the solution for your problem, please rate my post, otherwise give us more details.

Hard crive crashed,

When my hard drive went down a few months ago I bought an external hard drive caddy off ebay for about £13, best £13 pound I ever spent. I installed it into the external caddy, plugged it into the USB port and it worked brilliantly, if the hard drive still doesnt work their are many data recovery firms out there, but be warned they are quite expensive, this usally involves sending the said hard drive off and they send the desired files back to you on a DVD. Hope this helps, Paul

Blue error screen won't reboot or do anything

This is called "The Blue Screen of Death". Essentially you have to format the drive in most cases, and reinstall the Operating System. This occurs when there is a major conflict with a driver and Windows protects itself by not loading. You can try using your recovery disk if you have one. The other thing you can try is loading a new copy of windows in a diffrent directory like "XP2". The laptop will ask you which version of Windows you want to load and chose the second entry for XP. This is only if you need to get at your files to back-up. You will still need to format and install Windows again as this method is sloppy.

I just replaced my hard

New hard drives don't have an O/S installed, so they just be prepped and the O/S reinstalled, along with your applications.

Does your computer "see" the new drive? If the drive was properly connected, a modern computer will automatically detect it, and you shouldn't need to do much if anything in BIOS.

There is a key sequence to get into the BIOS setup, differs from computer to computer.

Assuming the computer detects the drive, the O/S install should partition, format, and install. Some SATA machines may not install Win XP without some additional work. Do you have the CD(s)/DVD(s) that came with your computer? If so, they should have all the proper drivers (including for SATA interfaced drives).

Hopefully this will help.

I just replaced my gateway

Hard drives do not come with OP's ready installed. There will be no information on it. You will have to install something like Windows XP/Vista. To do this you need the installation disc. Without it your computer will not be able to operate.
