While scanning a number of slides (for e.g 40 slides) the autofocus seems to get deadjusted for some slides. If I scann these unsharp scanned slides again in a single scann they are scanned perfectly. I´am using the Nikon scann software 4.0.2. And because I ticked the option "autofocus for every slide" I am under the impression that the scanner will do a autofocus adjustment before scanning the next slide.
Did anyone discover a similar problem or has an idear how to solve it.
Thank you for your help.
Regard
Werner
Hi there I had the same problem with auto focus sf-210.
If tried many things to correct the problem and what I found was that if you you put a small book halfway on the opposite site of the power button then I have maybe 1 or to slides out of focus and the other 35 slides are perfect ! (I used it with HAMA slides other slides I didn't test )
Hope this wil work also for you,
Paul
Now thats as daft as the last premium problem I answered.
Seriously though, have you got another firewire device that you could plug your port into to prove the port. Or have you another port to plug your device into to prove the failure point one way or another?

I have the same problem, my scaner can't get sharp pictures when it is on it's side as required with sf-210.
yes I have the same problem to - not good.
I am having the same problem as well. I have a new Coolscan 5000 and an SF-210 slide feeder. The first 10 -15 slides will be focused correctly and then it will be out of focus for the remaining 25-30 slides. I have my scan options set to autofocus on every slide, but it does not look like that is working correctly. My email is [email protected]
I have the same issue, and might have a potential solution for mine, although I haven't tested it yet. After I switched to a second set of slides, it complete lost the ability to focus (and you can hear it try and try to get it right). Just out of curiosity, I flipped the slide around so the emulsion side is facing away from the pressure plate on the 210 feeder. It was able to focus immediately on the first try. I'm thinking something about the Kodachrome slides cause this issue. I am investigating further to see what the trade-offs are on my approach.
