There is water building up in the bottom of the fridge ( under the crisper drawers). If I leave it there it will freeze. What is causing the water? The fridge is 18 years old.

All auto-defrost refrigerators have drain in the bottom back of the freezer, under the evaporator coils. Your drain is frozen over. When the defroster heater turns on, the melted frost (water) goes elsewhere, since the drain is plugged.
Take off back wall of freezer and use hair dryer to thaw drain. Will take an hour or so.

SOURCE: Fridge filling with water

There usually is a drain at the back of the fridge it's possible that this is clogged, This drain leads to an evaporation tray usually in the base of the fridge.

SOURCE: kenmore elite fridge crisper drawer freezing stuff

If you have a side by side model you need to look at the refrigerator compartment wall on the left of the bottom drawer and move the slide control to the warmer/fruit/vegitable setting instead of the meat setting.
I hope this helped. Please rate my help or ask for more help please. supertechks

O have a GE Fridge Model GFSS6KKxass i am having a issue with water accumilatimg under the both crisper drawers not sure what is causing this?

My GE Fridge did the same and the repair man I called said there is a little drain hose that goes from the top to the bottom of the Fridge at the rear see if that hose is plugged. I unfastened it at the top and blew air through it and the water is no longer a problem.

Water collecting in bottom of fridge

Good Afternoon Friend,

I understand that you are receiving water at the bottom of your Frigidaire refrigerator, model# FPUI2188LF. What can cause this is either humidity coming from outside your refrigerator or maybe from the crisper drawers. Make sure your crisper drawers are set for a high humidity. Another thing that can cause moisture build-up at the bottom of your appliance is not covering your foods. Make sure that all foods and drinks are covered to cut down on moisture floating around inside your appliance. Hope this is helpful.

-Best Regards-

My Kenmore side by side is fine, except for freezing everything in the crisper drawers.

The coldest place in your fridge is in the crisper drawers, manufactures know this and they even put heaters under the floor of your fridge to try to heat it up a bit in there, if you set your freezer temperture to low there will be less cold air current that flows into your fridge but it will flow in over a longer period of time, that air is about -22C so it will be blowing on your items in your crisper for a long time and it will probably freeze them, all very confusing and complicated but it may help to turn your controles for your freezer to a warmer setting, on the other hand if you only open your fridge a few times a day the cold air being denser will settle in the bottom of the fridge and freeze the crisper area, not much you can do about this, except eat more food... :-)

A 2 to 21/2 year old Samsung bottom mount freezer RB217ABPN purchased from Costco. Water is starting to collect under the crisper drawers in the fridge section. This is the third time in a couple of months...

You have a leaking water tank behind the crisper drawer. You will need to get back there to determine if the tank is leaking or the water connection is leaking. This will only leak if you close the door and dispense water from the dispenser.

Water accumalating in the bottom of the fridge.

A common problem. All modern refrigerators have an automatic deicer. The heater kicks in, then MELTS the ice in build up in the freezer for a short period before freezing again. This water drains either in the fridge or out the back to the catch tray. Simply pull out the bottom drawers and clean the clogged drain hold where the water can drain and evaporate in the catch tray as it is designed to.

Water build up under crisper bins in bottom of fridge. New seal has been applied, but still no luck. Kelvinator 400 top freezer

What happens is the drain will get stopped up and the defrost water will cascade down the back wall and puddle up under the drawers. You must access the evaporator area and open that drain.

Water on the bottom shelf of the Refridgerator

Has the refrigerator got a wet inner back?
Ff this is wet, adjust it until this solid ice 'blobs', bt not encrusted, like in a freezer
The refrigerator may not be cool enough and the natural warm moisture allowed into the cool compartment when the door is open is condensing into fluid before it is cooling sufficiently to suspend the moisture as a vapour. If the cool compartment is cool enough, any warm air admitted ill be chilled before it is allowed to condense, keeping the refridgerator dry.
However, the only drawback is that you will have to monitor it to prevent the build up of excesive ice.
Also, whether the refridgerator is either empty of full willaffe the day to day operation.
Hope this helps.

Amana refrigerator top freezer going out; water under crispers

you are right about the cause of water in the fridge - blockage in the drain. i'v never met this caused by ice but it is possible.
with the freezer, the cause of the fault is the fan not working - probably jammed with ice. take back panel off inside freezer and check for ice build up. if loads of ice thgen defrost system has failed. you can do a temporary repair by melting the ice off with a hairdryer
