More than likely if this is happening it is a manufacture problem, and you should send it in immediatly to either get your money back or to get it replaced. You will need to contact the company in order to do that www.vivitar.com
You will have to get the lcd screen replaced. It is most probably cracked where the connectors hook up to it. It is white because you see the backlight - because there are no lcd pixels turned on. (When an lcd pixel is activated, it blocks light.) Shouldn't cost too much to have done, $100 or so, but I'm guessing at that. Search online for repair centers, get some online quotes.
