Why should we use laptop cooling pads?

The use of a cooling base effectively supports the usual routine maintenance operations of the appliance, such as cleaning the chassis with a small brush and introducing compressed air into the air vents.

Laptop computers must dissipate the heat from the CPU and GPU in some way and if placed on a lap, table or tray so they cannot vent the heat they can cook those components and fry the computer.

How can I keep my laptop cool?

Protecting against heat build-up is essential and should be thought about when purchasing and use a laptop. To help reduce heat build-up and maintain your laptop cool, you need to use a cooling pad. Cooling pads also come in multiple varieties. A few are basic protections, which allow intended for better airflow within the underside of the particular laptop, where heat build-up is more usual to occur. 221c31df-46c5-4d2c-b576-9fe321824164.jpg

Video glitch

Suggest the laptop is dirty inside.
GPU is overheating causing what you are seeing.

By now the Thermal Paste/Thermal Pad may have dried up also, and need replacing.

I draw this conclusion based on the laptop works OK for a while, then graphics problems arise.

GPU = Graphics Processing Unit,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GPU

http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=3763&review=HP+6510b

A look at the motherboard, and a Bottom view,

http://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-COMPAQ-6510B-6710B-motherboard-446904-001-intel-965GM-post-free-full-test9022-/221166545280?pt=Motherboards&hash=item337e8da980

Put your mouse cursor in the middle of the photo, and use the Zoom In feature, moving the mouse around.

The purple socket you see on the Left, is for the Processor.
To the right is the graphics chipset.
Green square almost as big as the Processor socket, and has a smaller square Black chipset sitting in the middle.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-COMPAQ-6510b-14-1-LAPTOP-HEATSINK-COOLING-FAN-446920-001-443917-001-/251170205486?pt=US_CPU_Fans_Heatsinks&hash=item3a7ae92f2e

Above is a link that shows the cooling system.
The cooling system consists of a Cooling Tube, Heatsink, and Fan Assembly.

The Cooling Tube is a slightly flattened copper tube, sealed on both ends; and filled with Nitrogen.
There is a copper rectangular metal plate area, that is attached to the Cooling Tube.

The rectangular copper metal area sits on the Processor, and graphics chipset.
Heat from the Processor, and graphics chipset is absorbed by the metal plate area.

The Cooling Tube then absorbs the heat, and transfers it to the finned Heatsink.
The Heatsink absorbs the heat, then radiates it away with it's Tall, Thin fins.

Air flow from the Fan Assembly, (Small multi-bladed fan, in a black D-shaped shroud), helps carry heat away from the fins of the Heatsink.

Thermal Paste is usually used on top of the Processor, while a small Thermal Pad is used on the graphics chipset.
(A Thermal Pad is a material that is impregnated with Thermal Paste)

After age, and constant heat, (And overheating), the Thermal Paste compound dries up. Looses it's thermal conductivity properties.
Since a Thermal Pad is impregnated with Thermal Paste, the Thermal Paste in it also dries up.

[The graphics used is Integrated Graphics. Intel GMA X3100.
The graphics controller is part of the Northbridge chip. The Northbridge chip is part of the motherboard chipset,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Motherboard_diagram.svg

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_GMA#GMA_X3100

There is also a separate graphics chipset, as you have seen.
Trying to Not overload you with information. This is why I posted in brackets. Posted though in case you are interested ]

General example of a dirty laptop,

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AkAeE5I5E_A

Note the 'lint blanket' covering the fins of the Heatsink.
Very little, if any air flow is allowed through. Laptop overheats.
View at 1:14 to 1:28 also. This shows the dirty fan more in-depth.

Brought this up because, laptop closed, and off; I would like you to set it on one side, and with a flashlight (Bright light), view the blades of your cooling fan.
The intake duct for the fan is on the Bottom.

See a dirty fan? Then the rest of the laptop on the inside, is dirty also.

If you wish I can step by step you through cleaning, and replacing the Thermal Paste / Thermal Pad.

If a Thermal Pad is used on the Processor, or graphics chipset; it CANNOT be reused.
New Thermal Pad material ranges about $4, depending on where you buy it.
All you need is a piece about 1 inch by 1 inch, and the correct thickness. (Generally 1/16th of an Inch)

I would also like to interest you, in using Thermal Paste on the Processor, if a Thermal Pad was used before.

Plus would also like to interest you, with substituting the Thermal Pad on the graphics chipset, with a piece of copper sheet. (1 Inch by 1 Inch, and correct thickness)

Could I be wrong? Sure.
But in my defense it isn't 'my first rodeo'.
Let's start by you looking at the cooling fan, from the bottom of the laptop, and post back in a Comment.

How to clean sunbeam humidifier swm5250

CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS (from the manual):

The following maintenance procedures must be routinely followed in order to ensure proper, efficient operation of your humidifier. The unit WILL NOT WORK CORRECTLY if it is not cleaned properly.

When the unit is in use, daily and weekly maintenance is recommended. Regular weekly cleaning prevents scale buildup on the heating element and base. It also prevents micro-organisms from growing on the base. This ensures that maximum efficiency will be achieved.

We cannot over-emphasize how essential proper cleaning is to the maintenance and continued use of your unit and to the the avoidance of algae or bacteria build-up.

DAILY MAINTENANCE
Allow to cool before maintenance.
1. Before cleaning, set the control to OFF (O) position and unplug the unit from the electrical outlet.
2. Remove the water tank then unlock the misting chamber by rotating the safety lock towards the front of the unit. Lift mist chamber from the unit's base.
3. Empty water and minerals from the base and place in the top rack of the dishwasher. This will remove any sediment and dirt that has accumulated in the base.
NOTE: It is imperative that the base is cleaned properly. The base is dishwasher safe (top rack ONLY) for easy cleaning.
4. Wipe the heating element clean with a soft cloth after it has had a chance to cool.
5. Replace misting chamber and engage safety lock. The Electronic Thermal Control Heating element is lined with a coating that is designed to provide the easiest cleaning and prolong the operating efficiency of the humidifier. DO NOT use any metal or hard objects to clean the Heating Element. Never use detergents, gasoline, kerosene, glass cleaner, furniture polish, paint thinner or other household solvents to clean any part of the humidifier.

WEEKLY MAINTENANCE
Remove Scale: Allow to cool before maintenance.
1. Repeat steps 1-5 in the Daily Maintenance section.
2. Clean the tray by partially filling the base with one 8 oz. cup of undiluted white vinegar. Let solution stand 20 minutes, cleaning all interior surfaces with a soft brush. Dampen a cloth with undiluted white vinegar and wipe out entire base to remove scale.
3. Rinse with clean warm water to remove scale and the white vinegar solution before beginning to disinfect the tank.
4. Wipe the heating element clean with a soft cloth after it has had a chance to cool.

Disinfect Tank:
1. Fill tank with 1/2 teaspoon of chlorine bleach and 1/2 gallon of water.
2. Let the solution stand for 20 minutes, swishing every few minutes. Wet all surfaces.
3. Empty the tank after 20 minutes, and rinse well with water until the bleach smell is gone. Dry with a clean cloth of paper towel.
4. Refill the water tank with cool water; replace the housing and water tank. Repeal ALL Operating Instructions.

We got this A/C back in 2004. It is a window unit. Recently, it is not cooling our bedroom as much as it used to....I can tell when the A/C is actually *on* versus when the fan is just running. It is...

Hello, usually the unit will not cool properly if the filter or evaporator coil is dirty, also sometimes if the unit develops a leak the refrigerant will leak out and the unit will not cool properly. Clean the filter and evaporator coil first and see if it helps, if not take thermometer and measure the air entering the ac and the air leaving the ac and find the differance, it sould be between 15-20 degrees if not the unit is low on refrigerant and will have to be recharged.

I would like to put the cleaning process through, as i hav'nt used it for 6 months. epson stylus TX710W.

The print head clean maintenance is usually located in the printer Properties.
Inkjet printers need to be used frequently to prevent inkdrying out in the print head nozzles.
If the print head cleaning maintenance routine does not clear the blockages, then print head needs replacing, but it may be expensive.
It may be more cost effective to buy a later model and better printer thanreplace the print head.

4.7Ltundra 2006 only getting 8mpg? should be 14 in city...

Well take a few things into consideration.

1. Is the truck lifted? If so it can effect your mpg.
2. Does the truck have oversized tires? If so this can effect your mpg.
3. Has all the routine maintenance been done? If not it can effect vehicle performance and gas mileage.

A few things to do would be replace your fuel filter and air filters. Check the spark plugs as well. Keep up on the maintenance and gas mileage should return to normal.

How do I clean / sanitize my sunbeam humidifier swm5250 with bleach?

I'm no expert, but a friend of mine loaned me her humidifier recently and she just put some bleach and water in the tank and cleaned the tank with that. It did leave a smell of bleach in the tank that could be smelled any time it ran, but after a few refillings, it went away, and I figure if it smells there must be a little left, which means it should clean the working parts fairly well too. (while you're running it the first few times) And the medicine tray in the SWM5250 is dishwasher safe, so I would just run that through the dishwasher, but bleach should be fine for that too.

I have a 91'Nissan P/U w/a 2400 4 cyl.,5 speed w/200,000mi. in need of a valve adjustment. how is this done? My Haynes repair man. doesn't describe this process. . Engine has a valve ticking, runs great...

If the valves are operated by hydraulic lifters or tappets no adjustment will be possible or necessary.

Haynes manuals are usually quite reasonable in describing routine maintenance tasks and some of what can be expected to be found in the engine section aren't there but are listed in the routine maintenance section.

I suggest you read further and perhaps visit the index.
