PDF format means legal form which is handled in Adobe Acrobat. You said you scanned your docs into the picture gallery, and I am hoping that you left them in the default format that your scanner uses instead of changing them to a picture format (like JPEG, or TIFF) or this may be too complicated to assist via email.

If you do not have the latest version of Adobe Acrobat & Adobe Reader, do a search on the internet and download then install them. They are free. Once the programs are installed, open Adobe Acrobat and click on "file" at the top left side of the screen and try and open one of the documents you saved in the picture gallery in the acrobate program. If they are compatible, all you have to do is rename and save the document in Adobe. To save it, after you have opened it in Adobe - click on file and then "save a copy" or "save as" and choose whatever the documents name is and .pdf at the end (save to a pdf format) and then you are done.

If the file format of the documents are not compatible and will not open and easily save in PDF format using the Acrobat, then I would suggest asking your teacher for an extension.

Unfortunately Microsoft Word nor Office isn't compatible with iPad.
The iPad does not have any built-in apps for word processing. The closest you'll get is the Notes app. However, it is possible to download word processors from the iTunes store. Notably, Apple sells the iWork Pages app.
iWork Pages is compatible with iWork '09 documents that you create on your computer. It also lets you open and edit Microsoft Word documents. The program saves (and lets you share) documents in Pages, Word (.DOC) and PDF formats.

The easiest way I've found is to use CutePDF. It installs itself as a virtual printer, only when you "print" to it, you get a PDF document output. Download it for free here http://www.cutepdf.com/products/cutepdf/writer.asp

Sharing/Exporting as a word document causes the file to be converted. Certain elements may change on your file and unfortunatly there isn't much you can do to prevent this. If you want your document to look exactly the same on a PC, Share/Export as a PDF document. You can view and print the file on a PC but it can not be edited.

Appleworks is now a discontinued product and has been replaced by iWork. Its best if you start to learn how to use iWork instead since applework documents will have very limited compatibility.

The most basic function of MS Word is to create a document/file. Once a document has been created, the user may enter data - for example by typing some text. At any point after the document has been created, the user is allowed to save the contents. The document can then be accessed at a later time and modified as necessary. Documents can be printed out at any stage in this process.

PDF (Acrobat) files are a great way to make sure documents are viewed with the correct layout and fonts - even when the recipients don't have the program you used to create the documents. It's also a format that is viewable across multiple platforms. In order to create a PDF file in Windows you need to be using Adobe Acrobat Distiller.
Open the file you want to make into a PDF.
Choose File, then Print.
Use the PDFwriter option when printing from a word-processing application: Choose PDFwriter from the Name pull-down menu in the Print dialog box. Fill in the document information, then click Save.
Use Acrobat Distiller option when printing from a page layout or design program: Choose Acrobat Distiller from the Name pull-down menu in the Print dialog box. Fill in the document information, then click Save.

First, scan and save document. Second, download this free neat tool. It will allow you to print as a PDF. When you open the document, you press print, choose cutePDF and it will save the file as a PDF to location of your choice. Hope this helps!

That is normal, Word 2007 cannot create PDF documents, it can only save files on PDF but, being PDF non his own format, it will lose document format, and may not display pdf.

To create PDF you need the full version (not the free acrobat reader) of adobe acrobat, or a different adobe software (eg illustrator) that manages PDF.
