I have the same problem with mine the display does not light up and only the tone direct light and the main power light come on. When I have the main power on and try to push any of the input buttons it turns off completely.

Check with a multimeter the black flex cable from the high voltage board that goes directly to the display board and check if you ar getting all the voltages correctly, that model has a labeled PBC so you can be sure, especially the -30v
that voltage comes from the transformer, the orages/white/gray secondary cables check it too

Not sure - just make sure the tape player button is not pressed.

SHERWOOD RECEIVER 6108. I don't have the remote. Are some funtions only available by using the remote? When I plug it in I have standby mode but no florescent display, when I press the audio button on...

Generally speaking, an amp protects itself from heat, shorts and overloads by refusing to turn on or stay on.

Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output or marginally low impedance loading by the speakers; and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.

You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.

If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.

If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'naked'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced and competent hands-on tech.

Check for loose speaker connections as a root cause for intermittent shutdown.

I have a RD-6108 5.1 Channels receiver that want to connect to my flat tv. Can you help me?

If you consider that a TV is just a lightshow, it's not that complicated...

Composite Video Out to composite video IN on the TV would be the minimalist absolute necessary connection for managing the receiver through On Screen Displays.

Unless you intend to dub video to a VCR or something, there is no reason to bring TV video into the receiver.

My preference is to send the BEST version of any medium (audio or video) directly from it's original source to the BEST ELECTRONICS that uses it; then send minimalist versions across for convenience and lo-fi watching/listening.

Any self-respecting modern TV has multiple hi-def video inputs, so run the Bluray, DVD, cable box video straight in and run the audio from those devices to the Sherwood.

Fewer expensive cables, no excessive connections to go bad, no unnecessary handling of the material.

I'm pleased to see the manual for this one (and the product's limited video capabilities) don't tempt the user to route everything through it on the way to the TV.

Have a Sherwood receiver RD-6108 and want to hook it up to my LG plasma tv to have surround sound. How?

Think about this. Your TV is NOT the ultimate source of HiFi multichannel sound, but the source IT is watching might be. THAT is the best place to get the digital audio you want for the receiver. Run digital audio cables from he Cable Box, Sa, DV. BluRa, whatever to the Sherwood.

I also advise against running video THROUGH the receiver, opting for direct best conenctions from the source to the TV.

You SHOULD run at least a composite video cable from the receiver to the TV so you can use it to set up receiver things.

Rx-4103 stereo receiver, it cuts off after you turn it on, thei sound it make is a load pop.

Sounds like you have a bad capacitor in the power supply. Testing with capacitor tester and ohmmeter will be needed to find fault

Turns on for three seconds then turns off!! whats wrong??

check your speaker wire, if you have the 2 wires touching it will shut down the rec. Take a good look at where thet go into the speaker, sometimes they make contact there.

I have a sherwood RD-6108 receiver that shuts off after 30 sec. of use

This is the overload protection circuit. Make sure not alot of dust build up inside and make sure no speaker connections are touching. Most likely being that it a sherwood you will want to consider replacement.
Thank you,

Hi - You can download the manual by clicking the link underlined in blue below:

RD-6108

Your sub woofer needs to have it's own power amp i.e. a "powered" sub woofer:

Assuming your sub woofer is powered & connect as shown then check the following setting:
