Find remote code for sherwood rd6500 reciever

The only place you will find those codes, are in the back of the owner's manual. There is usually a general procedure to find a code that works, if they don't show the make and model number in the manual. If you don't have the manual, I'm sure it on their website.

Home theater system protection kicks out

Nice write-up.

http://www.sherwoodusa.com/pdf/RD-6500(English).pdf

On page 6 of the manual it states you should use a powered subwoofer and the unit provides a sub output on the rear panel for it. The message from the amp kicking out is that you're not going to get away with your workaround.

I would advise you to purchase a nice amplifier (2-channel bridgeable or single channel) for the subwoofer. That way you'd be sending only LFE signals and your receiver has provisions for adjusting its volume relative to the rest of the channels. I use a nice 5-channel Carver for my 3 subs and both Rear Surrounds.

On eBay I see what I would get if I were you - a Carver M-200T (120W x2; 300W bridged). I have one.

Sherwood RD 6502 :

Generally speaking, an amp attempts to protect itself from heat, shorts, overloads and operator exuberance by refusing to turn on or stay on.

Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output or marginally low impedance loading by the speakers; and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.

You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.

If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.

If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'naked'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced and competent hands-on tech.

Sherwood RD6500 is connected to

Hello
First check whether the optical cable is connected well between devices, and make sure that the cable has no trouble at all. After coneecting, you have to select the input of Sherwood to Optical-1
Eventhough the sound output is not there, connect it to coaxial-1 or coaxial-2, with a coaxial cable. Coaxial is also digital input. Select the input to coaxial-1 or coaxial-2, according to the connection. If sound output is there with coaxial and no sound output from optical; make sure that , optical processing section inside your Sherwood is faulty. Coaxial and optical will have almost same effect. If you connect it with a high quality coaxial cable, you will feel that coaxial is better than optical. OK.

Volume control on reciver isn't

Hello
You haven't specified if all the other functions are working with the remote control or not. If no functions are working with remote control, either there is no infrared emission from your remote control handset. Check it with the help of a cellphone with camera option. Cellphone digital camera can detect the infrared rays comes out of the remote control. Just put the cellphone to camera mode, and place the remote control just about 1 feet away from its camera lens and push each button on the remote control and see whether there is any image of infrared rays indicates at your cellphone camera screen. If not, be sure that the remote control is not working, and should be replaced or repaired. Replace the cells first, and check. If this does not helps you and still the remote control is not working, replace it.
If the remote control works, and the all the other functions of your device can be set with it, the motor of the volume control or it control circuitary has damaged. To check this, you must have through knoledge in electronics and is a time taking service work. OK.
