Remote printing was working and then it stopped.

I have a router and used remote printing from my laptop. It was working and then it stopped - when no other change happened. Same router, same laptop. . How do I reinstate remote printing with my home network?

If this is a network printer. You can reinstall the drivers that came with the printer as a local printer, then go into control panel open the 'printers and faxes' right click on the printer that you reinstalled, 'properties' go to ports tab, select add port, -> 'standard tcp/ip port' -> 'new port' -> next -> put in the ip address for the printer, it will be the scheme of you subnet for example if your ip address for your computer is set to 192.168.1.1 you would use the ip address for the printer port of 192.168.1.2. after that is done press next-> after that you will be set as a network printer. Try to print a test page.

If this does not work, you can install the printer locally on a separte computer, such as your home pc, and make the printer a share. Then simply add the share printer on your laptop. for example; after you install the printer on your home pc, go under control panel, -> right click the printer -> sharing-> enable printer sharing... -> Next -> You will be prompted on the sharing tab-> select 'share this printer' -> type a share name, such as 'Lexmark2' -> click ok. at this point you will see a hand under the printer, showing it is shared.

Note: you will need to get the computer name of the pc that the printer is locally installed, your home pc. for this example lets name the pc 'home' you can find the name of your pc by right clicking on my computer and select properties. go to the computer name tab.
also remember we named the printer share 'lexmark2'

now go to your labtop, go to the control panel and select 'printers and faxes' select add a printer on the right column. a windows will pop up, click next -> select 'A network printer, or printer.....' click on the radio buttion that reads 'Connect to this printer (or to browse.....' should be the 2nd option. this is where you are going to use the computer name and printer name.

put in

\homelexmark2

click next -> then finish

print a test page, from your labtop.

Disable your firewall on that computer where you shared your printer.

After that check firewall settings to allow printing from the network.

Your router working ok.

How do I connect my sky broadband to a second laptop which I have just purhased

are you trying to connect wireless or cabled?
Wireless should be easy, just turn on the wireless device (if its built in) normally by pressing a Fn key and an F key marked with an antenna picture. Then connect to you Sky router after the wireless scan (the number and network key are printed on your router base)
You should just be able to plug an RJ45 network lead into your laptop and it should use DCHP to work (Plug and play).

Printing remotely from laptop -- can I?

I assume it's a Brother printer not your brother's printer right? I have an HP and it's a wireless printer which is accessible through my network, you have to install the printer driver and software on to the other laptop that is connected wirelessly to your network.

Wirless Router

If you're able to print from main PC ,then run printer configuration disk (which you've used to configure printer on main PC) on your Laptop , Provide static IP address to printer & laptop, within same domain(like you can use class c IP address 192.168.1.x (x=2 - 251) & subnet ask 255.255.255.0 ,MAKE SURE THAT IP ADDRESS SHOULD BE DIFFERENT FROM YOUR MAIN PC ELSE THEY'LL RESULT INTO CLASH) .After that try to make a test print. If it doesn't work then check whether ports you're suing for printing are open in your Firewall inside laptop (If there is Firewall), Also win XP sp-2 Home adition has built in Firewall try to print after disabling it.
