Same problem I just bought this camera on Monday, and when I took some test shots and tried to download to my computer. Went thru all the similiar steps that I used to follow with my Olympus FE-190, except it stays on "one moment" after choosing to download to PC.

Why won't mu usb cord work for downloading pictures

Here is one possible solution. Some devices require that you use the USB cable that came with the device. Other USB cords won't work. This happened on a Nexus tablet I bought recently. When I tried to charge it with another USB cord, nothing happened. I had to use the exact USB cord that came with the tablet, even though both cords looked identical.

Retrieve erased pictures

Accidental deletion always happens nowadays. Good news is that files deleted from digital camera memory card or computer hard disk is still recoverable.

You need to rely on some photo recovery software to recover them. Programs like Asoftech Photo Recovery is very powerful photo recovery tool. download from site below

I own a Canon Power Shot A610. I cannot download my pictures into my new HP laptop after downloading the Installation disc. Is that because my computer operates with Microsoft VISTA, unlike my previous...

According to Microsoft's Vista Compatibility site, they have a driver to download that will ensure your camera is compatible with your OS. I'd try installing that, then restarting your computer and try the download again.

Strange lines at bottom of images and "unidentified image" error messages

This sounds like a possible write problem with your flash card. Do you have another memory card (preferably different make) that you could try with the camera?

Problem

If this is the first batch of images then there would appear to be a fault with the Camera or the Card to check it out following the manual- Format the card. Take a test batch of images Try a read back or an upload to computer. This will establish if it is the card or the camera. returner either or both to the seller for replacement

Cyber-Shot DSC-S500

We had similiar problems with ours until we started making sure the camera was kept warm when it was shut off. For some reason, it and the batteries don't like the cold...we were able to extend the battery life if we kept it covered when we weren't using it.
