Auto Focus does not determine exposure. Only sharpness. "Wrong" exposure could be due to the metering mode being set in Spot Metering. Set it back to Evaluative Metering which may improve the overall even exposure of your shots. Test your shots in full auto or P mode. M (Manual) mode will require you to check the exposure setting manually (you can see the indicator in the viewfinder when you half-press the trigger)
That is a custom function of the camera that can be change back to default with ease. While in one of the creative zones press the menu button and navigate to the 5th and final tab on the top right.
This is the Setup menu 2. In this menu, select “Custom Functions (C. Fn)” . This will open a submenu of numbered options. Select #04 and set it to 0: the default AF/AE lock on a half depress of the shutter.
That should get your camera back to the expected auto focus with the shutter button.
Check the playback menu that the review time has not been set to OFF. This will stop any pictures displaying on the back of the camera when taking them!
I leave mine at 2 secs which is long enough to quickly review and keeps the battery life up. If I need to review for longer, just use playback.
The flash won't come on if you have the camera in any of the creative modes (i.e. A-DEP, M, AV, TV or P). You can manually use it by pressing the flash button just above the lens release button on the front of the camera.
Hey robinhood123, The camera being in AV or TV mode should not effect the auto focus system, and if the auto focus is working in the automatic modes that implies to me the problem is with the camera body and not the lens. I would try resetting the camera to the factory default settings by following the directions on page 100 of your camera manual. If you no longer have a copy of your manual I have included a link to it below. If resetting the camera doesn't work I would have the camera looked at by an authorized service technician. I hope this helps! http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=SupportDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=215&modelid=14256#DownloadDetailAct Sincerely, Allan Go Ahead. Use Us.
The settings in Auto Mode are factory set. If you want to adjust exposure and shutter speeds then you will have to shoot in Manual Mode (TV=Shutter Priority, AV=Aperture Priority, M=Full Manual)
It does different things depending on the camera settings and only works in the creative zone settings not the automatic settings.
In AV mode it changes the aperture
In Tv Mode it changes the shutter speed
In M mode it changes the shutter speed unless the AV button is pressed when it then changes the aperture
