I purchased brand new Garmin StreetPilot C330 GPS in September 2007. I feel I need a new battery as it does not hold the charge too long. Can you please advice me what kind of battery I need, where will I find it and what's the model number of the battery it uses. I also need step-by-step directions how to replace it. I have called the manufacture and I was told by their technical support that the battery cost is $16.00 and shipping is $6.00 and both the positive and negative ends must be soldered. Thanks!
The batteries on the units are not meant to be serviced by the unit. If you are not familiar with taking it apart, you may damage internal components in trying. If the unit needs service, it is best to return it to Garmin and let them take care of the repairs. As far as the battery not holding the charge, if you have not done so, charge the unit on the computer for a few hours. This sometimes helps.
With all Garmin batteries they must be fully charged for at least 12 hours at regular intervals (once a month) throughout the year. By discharging fully and recharging for 12 hours, and doing this a few times you will increase the battery life.

I have had my C330 for 2 years, and the battery went belly up a few months ago. I called Garmin Tech Support and they told me that even though their warranty lasts only one year, the battery should last at least 4 years, and they would replace it, gratis. They issued me a repair number, and address to return it to. For whatever reason, in lieu of a battery replacement, they shipped me a brand new unit. They uploaded all my "way points" to the new unit, and now I'm good to go. Can't ask for anything better than that!
