Usually there is a wheel or switch to move in order to engage the bobbin winder. Also, most bobbins have a little notch or hole that corresponds to a pin on the base of the winder. If the pin isn't inside the hole/notch, it won't work.

SOURCE: Bobin winder won't wind

I bought a second hand Brother SE-270D. The previous owner had not used the machine in a very long time and could barely remember how to load the cassette to show me that the machine actually worked; but it is in beautiful condition!!

When I tried to run the bobbin winder at home, the winder would not turn, but the motor made a high pitch winding noise! I took it to a sewing machine repair shop and was told that it was because a rubber ring inside the machine, below the winder pin, had deteriorated after years of non use.

The replacement ring and minimal labor cost me less than $10! (The repair person encountered an E1 error message after reassembling my machine, but he was able to correct that by reattaching the wire connections.)

I can't seem to wind a bobbin. I've done everything in the manual but it just seizes up- doesn't spin.

you placed the bobin upside down

one side is flat the other is keyed

so place the keyed side down
usual fault with winders

bobins are easy... read again the manual slowly

I would like to take the front or top off the sewing machine to see if the bobin winder is stuck.

There are several set in screws on back side of unit, remove all visible ones. making sure there are know covered by tape (refurbished do) then the o-ring gasket on bobbin winder is probably deterriated, replace and it should be spinning.

My kenmore model#158.19411 bobin not filling

Take off the lid by removing the 2 screws, check if the bobbin winder tire is worn out (buy a new one at any service shop,) and make sure the bobbin winder shaft is spinning easily (oil). Don't get oil on the tire or it won't have traction.

No knob on the bobin winder Husqvarna viking 6570

That is a problem with the high/low transmission. The screws that hold the winder post have slipped and the post pushed in to gearbox. The assembly needs to be taken out of the machine and rebuilt. A viking repair person who has been at it for a while might be able to repair this. You may need to look around as this is a repair that is not needed on machines made after the 70's and a lot of current repair people would not know how to do this.

My bobbin won't catch on the bobbin winder, the metal post spins but the plastic singer style bobbin won't spin with it. What's wrong?

The bobbin may be stripped, or the bobbin winder might be stripped; try it with a different bobbin, to rule out the bobbin being the issue; if that doesn't work, look closely at the bobbin winder to see if it has been damaged. You may be able to adjust it's shape with a pliers

If I understand the problem, the bobin winder has probably lost a rubber 'o' ring.

Unscrew the two top screws and remove the top cover. At the base of the bobin spindle is a metal disk that should have a rubber 'o' ring on it. This will perish over time and break off.

When the bobin winder is pushed sideways into the active position, this should contact the main turning handle thingy (that's a technical term) and be spun around. Check if the bobin 'o' ring is making contact or if it is even there at all. Any sewing machine repair shop (or good automotive store if you're desperate) will have a replacement.

In embroidery mode, you have to send a design to the machine before the bobbin winder will work.
