Is the shaft seated into the engine all the way and is the gearbox (where the weedeater head attaches) shoved onto the shaft far enough? There’s a set-screw holding the gearbox into place.

SOURCE: just got new U Turn Trimmer head. It has line

push down and turn until it comes back up...now, on that spot that is all the way in, before it comes back up, pull up on it...got it ?? The release is located where the the spool is all the way down and getting the spool to "hang up" on that spot allows it to release...because it can't when running makes it a perfect location

SOURCE: How to remove trimmer head from Echo 230 SRM?

I know I'm replying to a old post, but this might help others. My Echo GT225 might be similiar. Once u are down to the thread bolt & the round shaft part that spins in ither direction, u need to thread back on the line spool, at lest the botton part of it to hold the thread bolt in place. Then start turn that rounded part that normally just spins, it will start to thread off, as you are thrreading it off you may have to also start threading the line spool part off as well at the same time. After that you will need the tool that takes off the C ring clamp thing that's underneath. I couldn't find any info on this online, I just kept on playing with it until I figured it out, UGH.

SOURCE: Need Help Installing U-Turn Trimmer Head on Echo SRM-210

It is ridiculous, there are a bunch of bolts, and then a multi-fit brochure showing a grid of nonsense.
There are instructions on the inside of the package, however that is how to string the line.

Just bought a brand new Husqvarna 224L Trimmer. Started it up and it runs fine. But the trimmer head will not turn. It just makes a grinding noise. The manual that came with the trimmer is useless. It says...

Hi, take it back to the dealer as the powered or gear box have not been fitted correctly. The noise you can hear is most likely the clutch drive grinding on the drive shaft. Hope this helps, regards Phil.

I HAVE AN ECHO 200 WEED TRIMMER. THE ENGINE RUNS, BUT DOES NOT TURN THE TRIMMER? CAN YOU PLEASE HELP ME.

hello tman.. when the engine runs but the trimmer does not turn it generally means that the slender drive shaft that runs from the engine to the trimmer is broken and must be replaced. Good news is that Echo tools have a 5 year warranty so find an echo dealer and he will fix it or replace it if it is less than 5 years old. joe
