I got Kenmore 110 248222000 washer. When I add fabric softener to the dispenser, it runs right out and down the agitator. Could the dispenser be missing a part inside?

I can pull top cup off, there is nothing there ?

SOURCE: Fabric softener doesn't dispense

Fabric softener dispensers are notorious for getting all gummed up and clogged. Remove the dispenser cup and soak in some hot water to dissolve all residue. While you have the dispenser removed check under the dispenser cap in the agitator for gummy residue as well. Clean with hot water. There should also be an agitator seal cap under the dispenser. Make sure the cap and rubber o-ring are seated properly. Last of all, if the dispenser has a cone shaped cup inside, make sure it is inserted cone-side UP. The cup is designed to allow fabric softener to roll down the sides of it, NOT hold it. I hope this helps.

SOURCE: Maytag washer fabric softener dispenser is yucky

There is a 1/4" machine screw in a recessed hole close to the bottom of the agitator. Remove screw. Lift agitator off agitate shaft.

SOURCE: gunk in middle of agitator

the fabric softener spins out of the cup after the wash cycle when spinning the water out of clothes, then the washer fills back up for the rinse w/ your softener having been dispensed. is there a nut at the bottom of your agitator where you see the gunk? If so you can take the agitator out by removing the nut but be careful of the little parts that make the agitator agitate. Do not disturb these little parts if you don't know about them. Does the gunk smell like grease or a mechanics garage? If so chances are it is a lubricant and should not be removed replace the cap and your softener cup and continue enjoying your machine.

SOURCE: Fabric softener cup on Maytag Neptune washer is

Hi. your problem is actually a rather complicated one.

Timer and selector switches The timer switch is usually the largest dial on the main control panel. It can be either a mechanical device much like a simple clock, or completely electronic with just a digital readout.

The timer runs the washing machine in a pre-determined pattern. It provides the electricity to all of the washing machine components at the correct time and for the correct length of time.

The Start switch is usually part of the timer knob. When you set the timer to the proper cycle, you either pull or push the timer knob to start the cycle.

The selector switches or knobs vary from machine to machine. Most washing machines have one or several switches or knobs on the control panel besides the Timer/Start switch. These let you adjust certain settings; for example, the water temperature, spin speed, timer cycle, and so on. Normally, the washing machine completes the cycle selected on the timer, regardless of how you set these switches and knobs.

Fabric softener ends up around rim of washer.

When you say you've cleaned both parts - have you poured hot water in and seen it actually drain out of the top peice while it was removed from the agitator? Have you poured hot water into the agitator with the top peice removed and seen it drain out of the holes? If not, repeated flushing (of the agitator) and soaking (of the top peice) with hot water as needed until is drains may be required. Until you can get water to drain out of both peices alone, it will work automatically. Once you have the water draining try again with a regular load of laundry and fabric softener. If it still doesn't work...

Since you've cleaned both parts (the non-removable and removeable top portion) of the agitator - it would suggest that the fabric softener dispenser's actuator inside the agitator is not functioning properly. The fabric softener isn't being released in the rinse (or at all really) and as a result of the centrifugal forces during the high speed spin cycle - it is causes the fabric softener to move up the sides of the dispenser and spray out of the top of the agitator onto the rim. This may be caused a mechanical or electrical failure in the washer or washer control. It will continue to work like this until it is fixed - so I suggest that you do not use the dispenser.

You will likely need to have the washer professionally serviced to have it begin working again. You can save the repair costs and either add the fabric softener yourself during the rinse cycle - or use "dryer sheets" in the dryer instead.

Good luck!

How to add fabric softner to the amana washer with locking lid

Check and see if there is a cup in the top of the agitator. Some machines have you put it there, turning back and forth during wash doesn't bother it, but the spin to empty the wash water causes the softener to go out through slots in the top of the cup and be held in the agitator. when it stops the softener drains into the tub, ready for the rinse cycle.

I have an older Maytag washer without a user manual and was wondering if the cup in the top of the agitator was for adding fabric softener? If it is when do I add it and how much do I add? The model number...

If I remember right it just sits on the agitator as a means to take off and use to measure soap, fabric softener. Since there is not a water flush line to it, I wouldn't use it to try to dispense the fabric softner. But it probably would do any harm to try it and see how much was actually left in the cup.

The fabric softener drawer keeps clogging what can i doit aslo gets mouldy and won't drain

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. Check down the edge of the door seal, see if there is a lot of "gunk" there, this would cause grey marks on laundry. If it is a front load washer then try these steps--

You'll have to do a few maintenance washes to clear it out of the tub. Try these steps to remove the dirt, debris and odor from the washer—

  1. Set your machine to 60 degree wash.
  2. Now add 1/2 a cup of Washing Soda or 4 cups of baking soda Crystals and run the machine with no clothes in it.
  3. Your drain will sparkle, and it will remove all the debris, lint & mold growth from the drain pump and drain filter. Also the mold from the door seal will be cleared
  4. Add 1 desert spoonful of Washing Soda to every wash... I sprinkle it along the crease in the door seal.
  5. Clean the fabric softener cup with a rag first, (bleach will not break up fabric softener as it is introduced in the rinse cycle with the fabric softener.
  6. Also check the drain hose, it should not be clogged.
This will clean your machine and get rid of the odor.
And, if it’s a top load washer then try these steps—

Remove the dispenser and spray with white vinegar. Then spray the agitator with it too. You can pretty much wipe it right out. Vinegar dissolves softener very quickly. The dispenser just wash out with warm water after the vinegar sits on it for a minute, and you hardly have to wipe at it at all. try adding bleach to the dispenser and clean it with a small brush.

The dispenser will pull off from the agitator and you can run hot water in it from the sink. The agitator is not as easy but has a 1/2" bolt holding it to the shaft. Remove the bolt and pull up. But you can clean the whole washer with a cup of bleach and that will also clean the agitator. Now run a full tub of hot water and then add a cup of bleach with no soap. After the washer has filled up, then add another gallon of hot water and that will help to rinse out the residues that cause odors. Then after that don’t use too much soap and you wont have residue build up. Only use the smallest amount of soap that the cup has marked in it.

How do i clean the fabric softener dispenser in my kenmore 80 series washer? Does it come apart to clean the inside? It is full of gunk and the fabric softener won't come out.

If it's located at the top of the agitator. It pulls off. Pull straight up. After you have removed it. Run hot water through it. Take a old toothbrush and brush down inside it. You can use Mean Green to help cut the goo. Now rinse and shake over and over. Pop it back on.

Fabric softener doesn't dispense
