You need to complete the process until it tells you "process completed" and you need to confirm with "ok"
If you have done this, and it still doesn't work, you should contact Miele.

When was the last time it was descaled, or stripped and cleaned?

Wow, after 8 years of inactivity it will need a full service. Full strip down and clean, new o-rings and possibly a new pump. Everything will have dried out inside.

Due to a software scripting glitch on the website, I am not able to reply to comments. I normally can on my iPhone, but apparently not today, even after trying all the tricks. I hope you come back and check on the post!

I recently had the problem of the dreaded "de-scale" message coming up on my coffee maker. After descaling my coffee maker 3 times, the "de-scale" message wouldn't go away. I called the Customer Service number and was told to unplug the coffee maker for an hour and that should re-set the machine. I did that and still the de-scale message remained. Another phone call and another customer service representative and I was told to hold down the Hot Water and Rinse buttons together. I placed a large mug and hit the buttons. There was a good bit of water that came through but IT WORKED! The coffee maker is as clean as can be and working very well. I suggested to the Customer Service Representative that Cuisinart should include this in the instruction and troubleshooting section. But I doubt that will happen. Sad that the web site info is not updated. Wanted to share my experience so it might help others frustrated by this issue.

Here's my temporary solution until the warranty comes in. Tie a rope around it to hold the button down. That's it!

Check the paddle wheel under the lower (conical) burr. You should be able to see vertical paddles that move the ground coffee. If any are broken or missing (very common if you've used rice intead of Grindz to clean the burrs) you need a new paddle wheel, which you can buy from Baratza.

The drive mechanism from the motor to the burrs has failed in some way. It is necessary to disassemble the machine down to the basic components to determine the fault. Good luck!

Remove bean hopper
Remove grounds hopper
Remove timer knob on the side
Turn the grinder upside down
There are 4 slits on the outside edge.
Insert a screw driver into the **** and pry gently outward with a
little downward pressure on the outside until the side slips a bit.
Repeat on all 4 slits and the shell should slide off.
There is a fuse on the side of the motor that will blow and stop the motor. It is a thermal fuse and should be replaced by a qualified tech.
