97 grand am instrument cluster flicking

All of the gages (temp, rpm, spedometer, gas) work but every so often the gages flick and sometimes get stuck there. for instance the rpm gage was stuck at 8000 rpms when i was at a stop light only idling. also when driving at about 40 mph the spedometer will flick up to 60 or down to 30 and the temp gage flicks up all the way to red line and the light comes on for a second and then it returns to normal. I have also noticed that the check engine and low coolant light come on for a breif second and go back off. i have no idea what it could be. Help?

My 2000 Chevy s15 Rpm and Gas Gauge is not working

I didn't see an s15 in that model year, in my database?
If the speedometer works but the tach doesn't, I think something is wrong with instrument cluster?
GM has had a problem with fuel gage sending units. The sending units are not hard wired to instrument cluster, they send signal to pcm, the pcm sends serial data to instrument cluster, telling the cluster the gage settings.
It may be possible to use different size resistors in place of the fuel level sending unit, to see if fuel gage reacts properly to different resistors, if the gage reacts properly, then I think the problem is the fuel gage sending unit.

Gas gage dont work

It sounds like your Instrument Cluster has decided not to work. you can find a replacement Instrument Cluster at your Local Auto Recycling Facility (Junk Yard) for $30 for a STratus or you can go to

www.car-part.com and put in your year, make, model and order one by Distance or Price.

My gas needle on my 2004 buick lesabre is not working also the rpm needle does not work how can i fix?

Sounds like you may have a problem with the circuit board on the backside of the instrument cluster.

Won't turn over. The instrument cluster won't work

ok iif the instrument cluster does not work.. before i give a solution can you tell me if it have atach and temp gage not a temp gage witha idiot light but a actual temp gage.. because if temp gage and fule gage hands are not in their proper place like if yo uhave a 1/4 tank of gas and it reads way past full and the temp gage is gone out of site way past say 240 degrees then it is your speedo head .. have this trouble the other day on a chevy 2002 cavalier.. replaced the head and wahla the car started. it seems the speedo head is tied in with the computer system on these cars.. and if the tach is not working you need not worry if you cannot find a head with a built in tach.. a normal speedo head with out the tach part will also work.. just when you change the head count the pins on the old one and compare it to the new one if they match then just plug it in and car should start..

In my 2000 caravan the gas gage spedometer rpm gage and temp gage do not work. I checked all the fuses and none look blown. What else could be the problem

Hi, I just went through this in a 96 grand caravan, make sure that there is no corrosion on the battery terminals, causes problems with the BCM. Also in the under hood fuse pannel there is a fuse for the IDO, pull the fuse for a couple of minutes then replace. this causes the BCM to reset. Ive also heard that if you have this problem and have the rear winshield wiper fuse blowing out you have a short in the rear wiring, find the short and repair it and you solve the problem, CRAZY hua? Good luck. the first two solutions worked for me.

instrument cluster. either you can pull yourself @ clean w/electrical cirercuit cleaner but also suggest check fuses for a loose fuse

generally when half the cluster fails it points a a failed instrument cluster, Not the ECU. Either way I would have it diagnosed properly before you replace anything.
