Acer Aspire One PC Notebook- Mini 1GB, WXP

Hi,

This sounds like the laptop is faulty if within minutes the laptop is totally drained of power from a so-called full charge.
Because the laptop is new then I recommend that you send or take the laptop back for repair or replacement as it's still covered by the manufacturers warranty.

Regards.

TOSHIBA U400 running VISTA; When I am on battery and get low i plug in so i can continue working but even though the lighted icons on the laptop show it is plugged in and charging and the toolbar icons...

Yes it is, seems there is some problem with the power state detection and changing of the load mode. Might by a physical problem, so I am not sure you can fix it.
At least check your power plan details and see if there is any error with the ACPI devices in the device manager.
In general, if you use the laptop when plugged, you should take out the battery to maximize the battery life (prevents useless load cycles).
Also configure Windows to optimize battery usage.

Dell XPS M1330 battery not detected!

Hi,
Normally the life time of a laptop battery is 300 cycles. that is 300 discharges and charges. Since your laptop is almost 2 years old, the battery could be at the end of its life time, and again depends on how often you use your laptop in a day. Better goto a service center or get a similar battery from any of your friends just to make sure it is not a motherboard issue. Then you can think about which part you've to replace.
Please come back and rate my solution if it turns to be helpful fro you, or also if you need more clarifications. Thnx

Bettery problem

Hi,

It could be the battery is already degraded. If the battery is more than 2 yrs. old you could check the battery health meter and see if you need to replace it. Hope this helps

Just purchased a compaq presario secondhand--is the battery supposed to charge automatically when you plug the computer in? Mine is not. Works perfectly with the power cord though.

All the laptops I have seen since the 1980's charge the battery, if it is installed, while the laptop is running. They charge at a slower rate if you are using the computer, and faster if you just plug it in and leave the computer powered off.
Most have a 'charging' led [green or amber] indicating that the battery is being charged when you plug the laptop in and leave it turned off. If you don't see any indication, check that the battery is connected firmly and that the connectors are not damaged. If possible, try the battery in another machine or a different battery in your machine.

On HP 530 notebook battery/power indicator is always on as long as battery is connected and even when ac power is connected the situation is still the same.

Clarification of your battery/power led indicator:

Solid amber:
Battery is charging at 0% - 89% capacity

Solid green:
Battery is charging at 90% - 99%

Blinking amber:
Battery is low

Led is of:
Battery is charged

Battery and or charger

Try removing the battery and see if the laptop works with the AC adaptor. If not either the AC adaptor is bad or the motherboard is defective.
If your battery LED flashes (yellow or Amber) or is solid Yellow or Amber color, this usually indicates battery is beginning to go bad. Eventually it will not hold a charge and will need to be replaced.
As for the error message “failed DST short test 1000-0146”, this is flagging an error on your hard disk drive. This could be caused by a bad hard drive or just needs to be reformatted.

Dell Inspiron 6400

How old is the battery? The battery is considered a consumable product. It really has to be replaced usually after a year or so. You may try updating your computer's bios software though to see if it will correct it. Updating this software is a bit risky and if not done correctly may further damage your system's motherboard.
Click this to see the instructions on how to run the update.
Click this to start the update. It can only be run though if the battery still has 30% charge. If you get an error during the update, you must replace the battery.
