So if anyone remembers about the post I made about the HP laptop issue, well I had an idea to run a portable version of Windows 8.1 using the AOMEI Partition Tool thingy which had Windows To Go embedded. I put it in the laptop with all hopes high that it would work, but I get an error saying No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key. Am I doing something wrong here? Because there is no way to boot off the laptop itself since the HDD might be dead or it is locked up OR it might be corrupt. And I cannot do a network boot because I do not have enough space on my main PC's HDD, the server we own runs ESX 4.1 which I do not wanna mess with, and our internet is super slow most times. PLEASE I NEED HELP ASAP. THANKS
Try when starting the laptop, hold delete or alt+del down to open in the bios section
go to the section that allows you to select the boot able devices
change from first hard drive to second hard drive or external disc drive or what ever you have that you can boot from and make that first boot
if you get it right then the message insert boot disc will go and the unit will boot up from that device
best use an external hard drive that you can put the disc in and make that your first boot up
by getting the computer to boot up you can repair any mistakes or circumvent any failed internal hard drive
only thing is , if your hard drive is shot , you will loose all files , folders and data unless you have it backed up on another device

Download the sata drivers for the laptop and slipstream the sata drivers with the xp installation disc ( making it bootable ) using nlite ( http://www.nliteos.com ) and then try and install - the other option is to disable AHCI in the bios or to make sure that it treats the hard drive in IDE mode and try and install xp.
If that does not help then post back and let me know.
The other option before you install xp is to go into recovery console and see if you can run chkdsk /r and see if that has any issues with the hard drive if it detects the hard drive.
If it does and you see any issues then if it cant fix them then there is something wrong with the hard drive possibly in which case download and burn the iso disc image from the hard drive manufacturers website ( diagnostic utility for the hard drive ) and run that and see if it reports any issues with the the hard drive. If that does not then it is obviously either a setting in the bios or because you have not got the SATA drivers intergrated with the xp disc.
Also if you can post back with a link to a photo of the Blue Screen of Death or post back exactly what it says.

Try your old HDD in it and see if that works. If it does work then nothing is damaged except your DVD drive/Controller. Try putting the new HDD in another computer, installing windows then putting it back in the HP. If all else fails then flash the bios with an updated image and see if that rectifies the problem.

well u really cant put in a disc, you said you have the aspire one that means it doesn,t have a disc drive . Thats the way it was made
SOURCE: my laptop is saying Check Cable Connection!
What this means is that it has "lost" the windows installation. Possibly corrupted and possibly a virus
The message you are getting is due to the laptop looking for an alternative boot device, the PXE refes to network boot, the last in the boot order.
What you need to do is obtain a copy of the Windows disc, borrow a USB CD Drive and re-install. When getting to the install windows prompt, let it "find " the windows installation and REPAIR
If you do not have a USB device, the following is your only other option:
