When you close the LCD into its folded position and use the viewfinder instead do you see a clear picture. if you see a clear picture then the multi strand cable than runs between the LCD and the motherboard has some of the strands broken. take it to a repairman to sloder the broken strands.

Hi, I'm from the Philippines. I have the same handycam model. The first time I connected it to my PC (Windows XP) via firewire, nothing happened. It cannot detect my handycam. I returned the firewire card to the shop where I bought it. They tested it and the firewire card is ok but the firewire cable is defective so they replaced it. When I got home, I tested it again but still the handycam cannot be detected by my PC. I went online to find a solution and I came upon a solution that you need to attach/connect your charger to the handycam before you connect your handycam to your PC. It said that the handycam needs a steady supply of power to be able to connect to the PC. It sounded weird but I tried it and BINGO! The handycam got detected. I was able to capture my videos.
I also have a TV Tuner & Capture Card but when I capture videos thru the RF cables, the videos losses quality and videos are blurred. Thats the reason I bought a firewire card.
