A codec is a digitized set of instructions inside the computer that allows the TV or player to decipher the signal coming in, if you don't have that codec you can't play the SD. Sorry you are out of luck here.

SOURCE: I need a codec code to play a video off my sd card for a sylvania sdvd704ob portable dvd player

Codecs are for computers. If your DVD is one of those stand-alone DVD players or those you you connect to a TV, there is no way to load it a codec.

There are different codecs for different type of video files and installerd dedepend of operating system of your device.

just for your informatiom, a very cood codec pack is the one offered by L-Lite for Windows

Download Lite Codec Pack

If you decide download it for your computer, be careful WHAT you download., press where it says download... in small letters. Keep away from big DOWNLOAD displays, they are adware and potentially unconvenient programs

I have a sylvania SDVD7030-B dvd player and a lexar 8gb sd card i downloaded music pics and vids on to the sd card the everything works fine but the vids say video codec not supported can anyone help

Try inserting the SD card into a PC SD card slot and see if it plays for you. If it does, then the Sylvania does not support the file extension used in the files you downloaded. It's not a fault.

My sd card has mp4 files that wont play i keep getting the message <video codec not supported> does anyone know how to solve this problem

You'll have to reencode the videos to a supported codec. There are literally dozens of mp4 codecs. Try redoing them using Xvid or Divx.

For sony vaio vgn-ns135e: my dvd drive plays cd, but not dvd. how can I fix it? oh, my sd slot doesn't read either. thanks. aimee

From the problems you're having, im assuming you have reloaded or updated your windows install, as you seem to be missing codecs and drivers.
The codecs are what allow the computer to recognize different video formats, to get full support for video formats, i would suggest going to download.com search for 'codec pack' and download the 'windows essentials media codec pack'. That should solve your problem, however if it does not you can also try a different media player, the best one is free and is called VLC media player, and can be downloaded from download.com as well.
The memory card reader most likely just needs a device driver. here is a list of all the device drivers available for your laptop from sony : http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-list.pl?mdl=VGNNS135ES&LOC=3 scroll down to ' Memory card reader/writer' and expand by clicking the '+' next to it then download it and install. you may want to have a look at the list to make sure theres nothing else you need if you have infact had windows reloaded since purchasing the laptop.

Computer wont play a video i recored with my camera on my sd card

I understand, if you are able to record on the SD card, make your computer to recognize it and lastly if you can transfer it successfully with no errors, we can make it to work by choosing an appropriate media player. I personally would recommend VLC player. Latest version of this software can be found in:
www.filehippo.com
Still if you are not able to open/run the media file. Let me know the type of file. I ll then according do a research and suggest a specific codec or a player that will support the file type.
File type can be found be right-clicking on the file and selecting Properties.

CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive

What DVD playback program are you using? Intervideo WinDVD is the best for-pay one, but you might look into Media Player Classic and VLC Media Player. Also, search google for K-Lite Mega Codec Pack and install it. It has the codecs required to play most movie formats. This could just be an issue of a broken codec. I would also recommend updating your video drivers (the screen that changes the color bit depth should tell you what kind of video adapter your laptop has; go to the manufacturer's website and get the latest driver).
