This could be a faulty CCFL lamp.
To determine if you have a LCD screen, inverter or video card problem, read this and follow these instructions.
Defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom: Screen flashs on red/pink and off. Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal. Picture flickering with dim display or appear black. Picture flickering on and off. All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp.
Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power the monitor up first then the laptop, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight. Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

Hi..

Most laptop PCs include external video outputs, primarily VGA (Video Graphics Array), with an increasing number of devices offering DVI (Digital Visual Interface), or HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) support.

When your laptop PC's built-in display isn't working properly, you can quickly and easily determine if the problem relates to the built-in graphics circuitry or to the display itself by plugging in an external monitor. If the external monitor lights up and things work as they should, the built-in display is at fault. If the external monitor also fails to work, it's likely that your laptop PC graphics circuitry has failed. Because this can involve replacing a standalone graphics module or the system board inside the laptop, depending on the make and model of your computer, you need to perform a cost-benefit analysis on making repairs or replacing your laptop PC.

Good luck !!!

I have Lenovo 300 N100 laptop, suddenly its screen goes dark after boot. At starting when i press Fn+F7 the LCD light comes for few seconds and then vanishes, now the duration of the light is even less...

The backlights in your monitor are part of the display panel itself and cannot be changed..
You may need to replace the entire display panel.
However, start by having the inverter which runs the display panel backlighting checked as the fault may lay in it rather then in the panel itself.
Now, you must be VERY careful when handling this inverter as it is more then capable of giving you a nasty electric shock.
To be safe, have the panel and the inverter checked by a professional.
NEVER handle an inverter that is connected to a supply rail..
The inverter is usually located inside the monitor housing of the laptop and care must be taken to open up the housing. Most housings are held together with formed plastic clips and you simply prise the fascia off the front very carefully. DO NOT apply any pressure to the display panel during this.
If the inverter is not in the monitor housing, then it will be under the keyboard and in this case, I would advise you take the laptop to a professional as replacing the wrong screw into the wrong hole can cause serious damage to the mainboard and destroy the laptop.

Lenovo 3000 n100 lcd display works but only less than a minute before display goes black. Connect an external monitor and it works fine.

possible problem is your led light on your LCD or its Flex. you might need to have it replaced. Try to check your LCD when it turns black under the light if you can see a dark image of your desktop. If you can see your desktop then the backlight has a problem. If there is no display, your LCD needs to be replaced.

Dell Latituse D600 display goes dark

Hello,

The picture board on your monitor is faulty or bad, since it goes black after few seconds, it means the picture board of your laptop has developed fault.

The best thing for you to do now is to take the laptop to a local repairer within your vicinity to help with the replacement of the picture board because the fault is not something you can fix yourself. in order not to complicate issues.

Take care.

Hi. I think the LCD screen of your laptop needs a replacement because I think the backlight on that LCD is already busted thats why you need to point a flashlight or some sort of light just to see the display. Powerdraining your computer wont work because this already a hardware issue with the LCD, that's why when you switch display with your monitor it works fine. I would suggest replacing the LCD of that laptop or try calling Lenovo tech support if your laptop still under warranty so that they would replace it for free. This is no. to contact for your Lenovo laptop US/Canada 1-800-426-7378, Australia 1-300-880-917. Hope this Helps

Broken screen, external monitor via VGA won't

Press "Fn+F7" once, wait a few seconds, and press it again, to "cycle" through all the possibilities (LCD-only, VGA-only, both).

Try the monitor with some other computer (desktop or laptop) to see if the monitor works at all.

Restart your computer -- does the initial "splash" screen (showing CPU speed and RAM-test) show? Does the "Windows" screen (with the crawling worm) show on the external monitor?
