Press AT&T button on top left of the remote. Check batteries. If both fail, press the OK button on the box itself to make sure the screen isn't frozen.
Have you checked your remote to see if its working? If you have a digital camera or camera phone, point the remote at the lense and see if it shows up on camera screen. If it is working then the IR sensor on the tv could be bad.
Your TV is responding as if the Game button was pressed on the original remote. The additional stuff on the screen is to let you set the best brightness and other settings for video gaming. These screens should disappear on their own in 10 seconds if no buttons are pressed on the remote. See the manual http://www.symphonic.us/support/manuals.aspx and fill in the model number. If the remote were still controlling the TV, the CH up and down buttons would let you choose the Picture settings to change and volume up and down buttons would change the setting.
The TV/VCR button on the universal remote may be swapping the remote to control the VCR only. (Thus losing the ability to control the TV.) (What does the manual say about the button for the universal remote?) You may want to consider a different universal remote - programmable or http://www.remotes.com/remotes/servlet/rs?a=Search&o=c&uid=0&m=ST419E&uuid=12844254442790 which has an exact substitute.
Check your cables for the sound issue (try new ones) and make sure that they are fully seated in the jacks.
Surely you changed the batteries. If you have a camera, camcorder or even a camera phone point remote at the camera and press any button. you will see the ir led light up in the viewfinder or screen if remote is working. If not replace remote. If so tv remote reciver is bad.
take off the speaker grill, you will see 2 wire plugs, turn the tv on, disconnect both plugs, if it now works with the remote then you need to replace all of the front switches, or leave them unplugged and use the remote, if this doesn't work, you have a bad dm board or signal module which could get very expensive.
Did you ever get this problem fixed? Ours just started doing the same thing. It worked fine the night before, but today it's doing what yours is doing. The remote stopped working for the TV. The remote still works for the cable box, but volume and anything related to TV function not. The screen flashes when we try to adjust volume or anything else, but resets to previous volume. TV not responding to any commands either on the front panel or remote.
Any ideas? Thanks, Patti
