Hi Eddie, it's Jack at Dyson.

In order to confirm why your DC59 is behaving in this way, we would need to take a few further details from you - including whether or not your machine pulses on and off before shutting down, and whether it displays any solid or flashing coloured LED lights.

When you have your machine easily to hand, please call our freephone UK Helpline on 0800 298 0298. Our experts will talk you through some simple diagnostic checks to pinpoint the cause of the issue. If they determine that a replacement part is needed, they'll also be able to confirm if you're still within your free Dyson 2-year parts and labour guarantee.

We'll look forward to speaking with you. Just to let you know, we're available from 8am-8pm from Monday to Friday, and 8am-6pm on weekends.

I have a DC59 and the battery has started to only work for 30 seconds and shuts off. My serial number is HJ8-US-FMA6469A

Most likely you need a new battery. Over time they do tend to stop holding a proper charge

How can i extend operating time on dc59 vacuum cleaner it only operates for 8 minutes, can i use a second battery?

2nd battery does not seem to be a viable option, reduce the suction power if u require less and it should work for 25 minutes approximately. (hope u know it automatically stops when dust the cup is full)

When I plug it in to charge the blue charging light comes on for 2 or 3 minutes then goes out and charging stops. Have I blown the charger by constantly leaving it plugged in? Please help!

Hi Alvina, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC59 will display a blue indicator light at the base of the hand grip while the machine is taking in power. The light will go out when the machine is fully charged. DC59 will take 3.5 hours to charge fully when the charge is completely depleted, but it will take less time than this if there is still some charge remaining on the battery after use.

Please note, the machine's intelligent control software is designed to ensure the battery only takes in enough power to recharge, and to keep itself topped up. It's safe to leave the machine connected to the charger at all times when not in use - the machine is designed to be stored in this way, so it's always ready to go when you need it.

From the information you've provided, I'm not clear on whether or not you're finding your DC59 works as normal once the blue charging light goes out, or whether it's not working at all. To make sure everything is correct, please get in touch with our experts directly. We'll be happy to talk you through some simple diagnostic checks when you have your machine easily to hand.

Why does my fully charged DC59 keep turning on and off

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC59's motor will make a rapid pulsing noise to warn you if something is stopping airflow from passing through the machine. The motor will then shut off for protection.

This should be quick and easy to resolve by checking the motorised floor tool, wand and bin inlet for blockages. It's also a good idea to give the washable pre-filter a rinse in cold water if this hasn't been done recently - we recommend washing it at least once a month. Make sure the filter is allowed to dry completely for at least 24 hours before replacing it.

I'm confident this will resolve the issue. If you would like further assistance after giving these steps a try, please call the Dyson Customer Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

My dylon DC59 isn't running smoothly ie it pulses, this didn't happen a week ago when I bought it?

Hi Sue, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC59 will pulse to let you know if something is blocking airflow from moving through the machine. You can resolve this easily by checking the floor tool, wand and bin inlet for any obstructions - the pre-filter may also need a wash. Just follow the steps shown in our video guide:

When I try to use my Dyson DC59 it won't start and blue lights on both sides of the battery start blinking. What does this mean?

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

From what you've described, it sounds as if you may be using your DC59 set to Boost mode. This will provide 6 minutes of highest suction for really stubborn dirt, but for regular vacuuming normal mode should work effectively.

To switch back to normal mode, ensure your machine is fully charged (this will take a maximum of 3.5 hours), then hold down the on/off trigger, and at the same time, press the illuminated Boost button on the rear of the machine.
