Sharp Microwave stopped working. lights up, counts down. Fine'

Hi,

It sounds like one of the door micro switches is bad. There are three micro switches typically. A primary interlock, a secondary interlock and a monitor switch. It is most likely the primary or secondary interlock switch. You may need to take your switches to a professional appliance shop to determine which one is bad.

The magnetron may have either failed or is not being supplied with the extremely high voltage required to run it.
Make sure the !!!!capacitor is discharged!!!!! before attempting any sort of repair.
Check the door interlock switches first then the high voltage diode with either an AVO model 8 on high resistance range for short circuit, the feed fuse on the primary of the high voltage transformer and then finally, the magnetron is best checked by substitution.

Even though you don't mention the model number, you posted under Sharp model R-1491, so I'll assume that's it.

You say when trying to work the actual microwave, you get nothing?

We could use a little clarification, but FixYa only gives you one shot at posting a help request.

When you enter the cooking time and press "Start", if the timer counts down and the oven lamp comes on, but the the turntable, cooling fan, and microwave section do not run, then you have a bad secondary interlock (bottom door switch) or its mount is bad.

you have a problem with the door interlock switches and it should not be used till fixed.

Check the door safety interlock switches.

if the problem is tempermental then is sounde like you may have a failing interlock switch. this is a series of switches that are activated then the door closes. there are normally 3 and you would be looking for/ replacing the middle the Primary interlock...

You need to trace the power feeding the high voltage transfomer. Because the table doesn't turn, it implies that a door switch or safety interlock is the problem.

One of your door interlock switches is defective . I would suggest having it repaired by a qualified repair tech in your area.
