I don't know if any errors with red blinks for the 2844, but the printer will blink red five times if you power it up with the button held. Is the button possibly stuck down?

hi, - Turn off the printer. - Remove the labels roll and then load it again. - Press and hold the green[feed] button and switch on the printer. - Release the button after it flashes red. - The printer will run a self test. - Turn it off and then on again. - Now print.
This is an easy printer to fix since there is only one control button. Turn the printer off. Hold the green feed key down while turning the printer on; once the red light begins flashing, let go of the feed button. This will do three things: the printer will calibrate with the installed media, it will print a configuration label and the printer will go into dump mode. Press the feed key again. One more label will come out with with the words "Out of Dump" printed at the top. If the printer still fails to print, remove the ribbon and try the same procedure with direct thermal labels (UPS or FedEx). From there, consult the manual for more troubleshooting tips.
Calibrate it! Hold down the green feed key while powering on and then release when it flashed red. If this fails, look at the page size in the driver or the "Q" and "q" EPL commands that you are sending from you application. Make the proper dots to inches conversion and try again.
When you say 2 x 1.38, it sounds like the labels are 2" wide by 1.38" long. I do not believe that the length is below a specified minumum, but this information is not on the spec sheet. Try tech support if all else fails.
To change from "page mode" (protrait) to "line mode" (landscape) you need to complete the following steps. 1. turn the power off 2. hold the feed button down 3. turn power on, the feed button should blink, release the button. 4. when the feed button blinks green, press and hold until it turns red or amber. release the button. 5. turn the power off. 6. hold down the feed button and turn power on, the button should blink and release. it will now print a calibration page. 4 blanks followerd by 2 text pages, the last saying "Now in DUMP" press feed to exit. on the first print, the 4th line down will say either page mode or line mode.
Hopefully you can read this. I downloaded entire manual from Zebra. This section is the feed button options to reset communications, calibrate, print configuration & also to do a factory reset. You will need to try the FACTORY reset. Basically while the printer is on you press & hold the feed button till it blinks 4 times in a row then release. It will blink 1 time then pause then it will blink 1-11 & pause then 1-11-111 then pause then finally 1-11-111-1111 then release. Each 1 represents a blink. I would attach the doc but system is too busy to allow right now.
Hold the feed button while turning on the printer. After a config label
prints, turn the printer off and then on again, and try printing again.
Also, make sure the lid is closed far enough to engage the lid sensor.
If the red light comes on again, press down a bit on the lid, hit the
feed button and try to print again.
Thanks Nick, I checked the functioning of the button, and everything seems to be OK.
