How to update your Zune player
Overview
If you haven't used your Zune player in a while, you might need to update it in order to get the latest features and improvements.
Steps to update

On your computer, start the Zune software.
Connect your Zune player to your computer by using the USB cable that was included with your player.
If a newer version of the Zune firmware is available, you'll see a notice to update your player. You can also manually check for new player updates in the Zune software. Go to Settings (located at the top of the screen), Device (located in the upper-left corner), and then Update (located in the list at the left).
If you receive a notice to update your player, follow the on-screen instructions. Important During the update process, don't disconnect your Zune player it until the update finishes. The update might take several minutes. During this time, your Zune player might restart several times.

Ok this is either a usb hardware problem, a cable problem, or a zune problem.

Basically to find out which you need to do a process of elimination. plug in the zune and when it fails then unplug it and plug a different device into the cable (preferable as this eliminates cable and usb as probelm in one go) or into the usb port. Next is try a differant cable. And finally try the zune on a different computer. If the zune isn't recognized on a different computer it could be the cable or zune. Try a differant cable again.

Usually the most common problem is the device followed by the cable. Unfortunately the only reliable fix is to replace which ever is the problem.The cable ends sometimes get damaged or loose and you don;t get a good connection. Sometimes you can check this with a quick wiggle on the ends. If it suddenly gets recognized then the cable is the problem.If its the device there really isn;t anything you can do but replace it.

Hi if you are getting the error 5 contact support message your HD is going bad. You can try re loading the firmware but if that does not work then the HD will need to be replaced.

My Zune HD won`t turn on, what do i do ? =]

Hold the power button for 10 seconds. this should cause reset. if it does not hold it again for 15 seconds this should cause it to power into repair mode where you will then need to plug it into your computer and update the firmware with the included software. hope this helps!
