Did the charger documentation say it was Zune compatible? If so, you might try contacting the charger's manufacturer, since it sounds like you fried your board.

Does your Zune respond at all if plugged into a computer via a Sync cable?

You shouldn't have to install the driver yourself! Uninstall and Delete all files connected to your Zune (except your music files!). I figured out the solution by just getting upset.
Hold the Back arrow (<-) and Up on the touch pad and it will restart the Zune. This works for the 8gig and 80gig Zune.
