There really is no certain psi on filters, every system is different so every psi will be also. Normally, start up psi will be between 8 and 15, but it could be higher than that as well. If the psi is higher than 20 after cleaning the filter, then depending on your equipment, restrictions in the plumbing, and pipe size, that may be normal.

If you have just cleaned the filter and the psi did not drop down, you may need to check the sand level, or hardness of the sand, in the filter. If you have had an isue with algae, it can grow inside the filter. This will cause the psi to go higher than normal and the filter will need to be cleaned out completely.

Sorry that I do not have an exact number for you, but "normal" psi is between 8 and 15.

My lacron sand filter leaks from the wast pipe can you help

If this unit is installed properly then it would have a pressure guage on the filter to show the back pressure as an indication of when the media needs to be back washed. What is the pressure reading? If no guage is present then you need to dump the media and replace it and then install the guage and check the pressure. You may need to change the seats on the valves.

My hayward sand filter pool guage is registering 0 although the pool seems to be running fine. Guage was just replaced last summer.

  • Those spring type gauges break constantly, most likely broken again, they cost a couple bucks extra but liquid filled are much more durable, just don't forget to remove if you live where it freezes.

I have a hayward s166t filter, guage reads 0 and sight glass water does not swirl when backwashed

Does it show pressure when in "Filter" mode?

If not, then your pump is either not primed, Impeller is plugged, or there is not enough water in the pool, you are sucking air.

Pressure guage reading 25-35 upon opening pool. backwashing made no difference.

if the pressure on the gauge does not lower after backwashing you may need to change the sand in the filter.
This happens when the sand is so compacted that it is not able to be moved around to clean the debris out when back washing.

Pressure guage is reading high upon opening this spring. does not help with back washing/rinse

Is the Pressure Guage operational? Does it go to 0, when you turn it off?

If not, then replace gauge. if it does, then your sand is clogged. Use a sand filter cleaner. Add this into the tank, then it sits & soaks for at least 12 hours or so. Use one of good quality and follow label instructions.

I have a swimpro sand filter it is 5 yrs old and this season when i started it up it doesn't seem to have very good pressure i have backwashed it three times and it wont even run my pool cleaner no...

If there is not much pressure, the problem is with the circulation system. Probably the pump.
When a sand bed gets old the pressure goes up on the guage, but the filter doesnt do much. When there is a lack of pressure, its due to a problem with the water flow. Usually a clogged impeller, strainer basket, or skimmer basket.

The most common solution for a loss of pressure is to dissasemble the wet end of the pump, clean out the impeller, and replace all o-rings and seals, including the shaft seal. This will revitalize the performance of your pump.

I have a S21OT sand filter that is running off the pressure guage and flowing sand back into the pool. The laterals are fine, I changed the sand, backwashed for about two minutes, and rinsed, The pressure...

Usually sand blowing back into the pool is either cracked laterals, a cracked hub assembly (what the laterals screw into) or a bad spider gasket is wrong with pool filters. If you are certain that the laterals and hub are not cracked then I would try replacing the spider gasket.

We had a lot of rain and mud got in the pool. i vacuumed the pool twice and the third time i vacuumed it, i put the filter on "waste" instead of keeping it on "filter". it cleaned up very well that way...

You may have to change the sand from to much mud. this requires removing the valve from the top and syphoning the sand with a "sand changer" then removing the latterals from the bottom.( they unscrew from the hub inside the filter and cleaning them. Return the correct the amount of sand covering the tube shaft that connects the valve to the hub sot he sand doesnot clog the flow again. Return valve to the top and it should flow freely again.

Pool sand filter noisy only on filter setting and no pressure , but if you bypass the filter the noise goes away and there is pressure

Something is stopping your water flo before the filter otherwise you would show pressure on the filter guage. The only thing that I can think of would be if you had taken your backwash valve apart and reassembled it in the wrong position. Ether put the handle on backwards or mounted the top out of place. Hope this helps, good luck.
