Nissan Sentra 2001 gxe with code p0420

Nissan Sentra 2001 gxe (125.000 miles). I´ve had the check engine light on for more than one year with the code p0420 (catalytic converter. About 2 months ago I reset the computer and traveled from NC to FL (1000 miles aprox). After that I drove in Florida about 300 miles and then the light went on again. What could be the problem?.

You will need a new catalytic convertor assembly. Yours is below treshold efficiency in other words its "no good".If you have it replaced, ask the garage/dealer to give you the old one back. Its worth some cash if its full. It doesn't matter thet it failed. They are going after the mesh inside of it and that is worth some $$$$. May not be much , but better than nothing.

Poor acceleration, but the engine is strong

your ECM/ computer may be shot. those model sentras had campaign, where the ECM box would be lined with foam to hold the computer tight, but the fumes from the glue that Nissan used to hold the foam down, would eat the computer internally and destroy it. Nissan had us pull those foams out and discard. if you still have the foams inthere, good chances are that the ECM is fried, causing issues. Question: did you use aftermarket air filter in the air box?? or Nissan filter?? Let me know. very important to use Nissan filter it this car.

Just hit 180,00mi and battery and brake light diming

Have the battery tested and the alternator tested, the other issue may have a code stored to help point in the right direction, at that many miles things are bound to wear out.
