I have a dell inspiron 1000. I believe the driver for my cdrw/dvd drive is corrupted. (error message - ''windows cannot load device driver for this software - code 39'' and the c drive is now the only one listed under 'my computer') I thought i'd try to restore to a previous date but my system restore isn't working now either. I first kept getting ''restore incomplete'' so i tried turning off system restore, rebooting and turning system restore back on. Now the calendar in system restore won't go to previous months for a restore point. Please help!!

When you turn off system restore, your computer deletes all previous restore points. That is why you cannot see previous dates in the system restore calendar. Microsoft has addressed this specific issue here:

This issue can appear if you install and then remove CD-ROM emulation software. Other programs, such as those with the ability to burn CDs (itunes, Nero Burning Rom, etc.) can also cause this problem.

Have you tried to go to the Dell Support site?http://support.dell.com/support/index.as... Select Drivers and Downloads. Enter you service tag # or choose your model. There is a firmware download for that model with a Sony drive.
